I would like to interject here, that the inserts from the drug store are mostly educational in nature so that the patient will comply with the doctors prescription.

They are carefully worded to avoid negative side effects.

Even the lists that may be included are vague...so people don't know what they mean. "Report to your doctor, yellowing skin, or bleeding gums"... things of that nature.

The purpose of them therefore is to increase patient compliance and sell the product.

The handout will tell patients to take with or without food and what things or other drugs to avoid.

It will say for antibiotics, take all of the prescription unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

I am old enough now to recall a time when the name of the drug was never put on a label to the patient, and expiration dates of the product didn't exist. And back then pharmacists were not allowed to even tell what the drug was for, etc but to refer the patient back to their doctor.

The actual inserts for the drug are often more technical like RXlist.com (RXlist.com is actually a copy of these inserts to the pharmacist) and are attached to each supply bottle behind the counter. Most pharmacists will give you one if you request it. But they often are out of date, and some even go back years to when the drug was first released. Only in serious situations are they updated or black boxes added and even then it is a long process involving evidence and committees.

This thread is for discussion of statins, so we need to stay on topic. You can further discuss this particular digression by starting a new thread.
