I've had a bread machine for several years but never really got the hang of using it. I've been gluten free for over a year now and am giving serious thought to replacing my bread machine. I'd like something that makes a 1.5 or 2 pound horizontal loaf and has a gluten free cycle. Any suggestions? I really like the look of the Zojirushi but the price makes me pause. Thanks.

I'm also eyeing the Zojirushi. I have a wheat allergy so I have been trying to make my own bread. Amazon seams to have the best price at $204. and if your a prime member you get free shipping.
Before I learned of my wheat allergy I got all my baking stuff from King Arthur, I baked wonderful cakes and other baked goods and only used King Arthur products. They sell the Zojirushi (at $204. plus shipping) and talked very highly of it. I'd love to hear from someone that has the Zojirushi or from someone that has a bread maker they love that makes a horizontal loaf.

Funny you should mention King Arthur. I love that place. I was at the store twice while visiting some of DH's relatives in Vermont.
Their catalog has gluten free mixes from Gluten Free Pantry. I really like everything I've tried so far. (I can find them easily in area health food stores too.) I recently got the Gluten Free Baking Classics book from them also. I haven't made anything yet but I do like the book. They also carry Hi-Maize which is a resistant starch. You add it to smoothies, soups, baked goods, etc. to give yourself extra fiber. If you use it in baked goods you can use it for up to 1/4 of your flour. I heard a talk about it from one of their (Hi-Maize) reps at my first GF support group meeting. I just got some and will try it out soon. KA is one of the few places I know of to get it.

WeaveHerr, I order the Zojirushi today, I'll have it Wednesday. I'll let you know what I think of it than.
I also got the KA cookbook you told me about as well as there GF bread mix and non-wheat flours, those want ship out until at lest Monday, so it should be the end of the week before I get those so I may not get to try the Zojirushi until I get my special flours or the mix.

Thanks. Well I haven't had a bread machine for over 3 years. I was talking to DH after we talked about the Zojirushi and he asked me what was wrong with the one I had , "I don't have one". I told him (again) it broke over 3 years ago, he said didn't you get a new one, "NO". He just was like "Oh". So I felt like it was time to get a new one. After all he thought I already bought one, LOL.

I had read the "Zo" can do more than just bread. I'm not sure I would try meatloaf in there but cake or jam does sound interesting.
Well I could just bawl. I did make a loaf of bread today using just the dough cycle on my machine then transferring it into another pan and baking it in my regular oven. I took it out five minutes early because it was burning, one of the long sides is much taller than the other, and it bulged out over the pan edge on the taller side too. It is edible thankfully but certainly not pretty to look at. Like my taste buds or stomach have eyes. I never said I was good at baking bread but this can't be all my fault. There has to be a better machine out there. I never got a perfect loaf from this machine! Even my attempts at quick bread were flops. They always came out severely under baked. Waiting for a full report on your Zo.
