I wonder if you are underestimating the effects that stress can cause? It is not just a psychological condition-it is a very real physical one.
If your muscles are tense hour after hour, day after day, week after week etc just imagine what that is doing to you.
If massage is out, then why not try some muscle relaxants? You can get these over the counter, or from your Dr.
It is natural to try and link it to whatever the last significant event was, such as the eye, but this can also confuse the issue as it closes the mind off to other possibilities.
Try hot baths, meditation, relaxing music as well. Walks and so on to get your mind off it.
Stress and muscle tension is a major player in chronic pain, yet is so often overlooked for a more 'medical' cause.

Couple months later I mentioned it again and they checked it out at the hospital, but said it's nothing it's just all the stress and your eyes coping with the loss of vision in one eye. Two months later they checked it out again but they said the same thing. I was gonna mention it again about 2 months ago but I kinda forgot about it because I suddenly had more important things on my mind (my brother died of cancer a few weeks ago).Anyways... I just was wondering if anyone has any ideas, advice, anything. I'm going back to the hospital next week for more tests because of the headaches but I'd like some more information rather then in a few weeks or so. And what if they say it's nothing again 'just stress'?Thanks,Colours

Hi,
I hope you're feeling better when you read this note.* I also hope GOD's best for you and your family during your time of loss. Have you had a CT scan done?* I had headaches for years while I was in the Army, but it wasn't until they did a MRI that they discovered the enlarged ventricles.* MRI is more concusive, but the CT scan picks it up as well. As for pain, thats a long story. Visit TEC49, a small part of my story is there.* Thats it for now.

Hi I would suggest that you look into something like pcs or TBI.

Or even a situation were your head or neck muscles are in a situation
were they just are so tight they aren't either moving freely, or it hurts
to move. This causes headaches for one thing.

I know about this first hand. I had a whiplash type accident a few years
ago. But instead of being hit by someone in a car. I feel off a bench,
hit the side of a dresser and was with a concussion in my head for a few
days. Didn't really realize this.

But it turned out that I couldn't move my head for almost a year. I
went through Physical THerapy, using a combination of ultrasound,
heat padding, or even ice ones on my neck. And also even traction.

I ended up buying a tens unit to try to learn to use at home. When
it was decided my neck wasn't going to release on its on. I was on
strong pain meds. But it just wasn't letting go, I was being released
from my therapy. There was nothing left to try.

I just happened to get luck with one lesson left, it released. I got to
tell my therapist that it had released that week.
We celebrated. With some tens unit work and some other things. The
headaches subsided, but without the removal of the tension and stiff
neck I wouldn't have lost the pain.

I had a very similar situation and excellent result from remedial massage.
Awful headaches that just wouldn't go no matter what. Everyone said it was just arthritis, neck is worn out, get used to it and take pain pills.
New pain doc examined my neck and found very sore, tight muscles there, down to the shoulders. Referred me to a clinical physio, who drew up a plan of daily light stretches and exercises, along with remedial massage for as long as it was needed.
Said give it 2-3 months to take effect.
Well, it worked. The massages gave immediate relief, though she has had to work very hard at it-I feel a bit sorry for her!
The exercises are gradually strengthening my back muscles, stopping them from contracting and pulling on the neck muscles.
So make sure that you give equal attention or more to your muscular system, as it can cause all sorts of pains that you might think are spinal.
Haven't had that sort of headache for 3 weeks or so, whereas they were once or twice a week.

I really like what Peter B has to say and when I get a chance, will re read his posts.

It's been my experience as well that stress and muscle tension go hand in hand and can lead to or worsen headache pain.

Perhaps you might look into exercise to strengthen your eye. Or perhaps relax your muscles.

Are you getting in any exercise in general? It sounds so very simple, but exercise oxygenates the cells and this likely relaxes the muscles.

What medications are you taking for bad pain? Be sure not to take anything that causes a "rebound" effect...you might want to talk with the doctor about this. I understand Naproxen is often good for mild pain and Imitrex for more serious pain.

Additionally, you have been through a very serious, very debilitating and traumatic event. Have you considered therapy to discuss it all?

I'm absolutely, positively not saying that this pain is not very real and that you do not have a real and true physical cause for it all. However, it's been my experience that often stress can cause tension and muscle tightening...worsening our headaches.

If you are a teacher or a student..perhaps you can use the summer months to explore beginning a gentle to moderate exercise routine and or massage therapy.

I'm so sorry for your difficult pain and wishing you relief in the not too distant future.

Thanks for all the new posts, i just read them. Will think about it.
I can't handle massage but maybe stretching exercises could help some who knows...
I don't get as much exercise as say, 2 years ago, but there's still gym at school and once every week or every 2 weeks i go for a jog with my fosterfather.
I do have a t, for a lot of things, but it's so stressfull it's not helping at all.
Again thanks for the replies.

Default Headache 24/7

My 14-year-old son has pseudotumor cerebri. It took almost 1 1/2 years to dx him. A year after that, we finally have a doctor who listens to us. We are 3 1/2 years into this and there is hope.

He goes to biofeedback once a week and says it makes a difference.

Please don't give up and tell your fosterfather how you are feeling. I hope and pray you get better.

I just thought of a thread I read today. Have you ever heard of RSD? Read this:

Reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), also called complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), is a chronic, painful, and progressive neurological condition that affects the skin, muscles, joints, and bones. The syndrome usually develops in an injured limb, such as a broken leg, or following surgery. However, many cases of RSD involve only a minor injury, such as a sprain. And in some cases, no precipitating event can be identified.

RSD/CRPS is characterized by various degrees of burning pain, excessive sweating, swelling, and sensitivity to touch. Pain may begin in one area or limb and then spread to other limbs. In some cases, symptoms of RSD/CRPS diminish for a period of time and then reappear with a new injury.

Let your doctor know and suggest this.

So sorry for your losses. Hang in there. I'll keep you in my prayers, if that's okay with you.
