Hi. Im a 17 year old female, and I have been experiencing headaches for the past 8 days. I wake up with none, however an hour later it starts and lasts pretty much the whole day. I have experienced headaches before, but not for 8 days straight. The pain is dull, and throbbing. The pain is tolerable, however it is just really annoying to have. I have no vision problems or nausea. The pain tends to be on the left, then to the right, and sometimes on both sides at the same time. The top of my head, like my scalp is very tender and sensitive as well. My doctor is not in for this week, therefore I have to wait until Monday to see her, but I did goto a walk-in clinic on tuesday and they perscribed me Tylonel 2 with codein. It worked for 1 or 2 hours, then started up again. I started having an allergic reaction to the Tylonel 2, so I stopped taking it, and now just using Advil liquid jels extra strength. They do not work, but it does ease the pain a tad. I'm not sure why I'm experiencing these for this long, is this normal? 8 days? I am under a bit of stress, and am currently getting past depression. I am really worried something is wrong with me, I have been crying daily thinking its a tumour or something else. I have had thoughts of going to ER but in the end decided not too.. I am just going to wait till Monday to see my family doctor.
Is this common? or has anyone ever experienced this and can give me some advice? I hope so ![]() |

![]() I learned in my medical journey that many, many factors can cause headache/migraine. Anything from your jaw joints to hormones to neuralgia. You should see your doctor as soon as possible however, and you should see about a referral to a neurologist to get it checked out asap.

I don't have medical expertise. But I do know what it is like to have bad headaches constantly. And I know how much pain you are in. I hope you find an answer soon. Hope you can keep at it until you find the cause. Hang in there!
Hugs... ![]()

There is a cause of chronic headache called pseudotumor cerebri.
It is diagnosed with a spinal tap to see if the fluid surrounding your brain has elevated pressure. It happens in young people. And can be connected to certain drugs, mostly those for acne treatments (minocycline and Vit A retinol). It is more common in women. This can be treated, so any long term severe headache should be followed up by a doctor, to make sure you don't have this. Left untreated the pressure can build up and damage your eyes.
