My daughter is almost 4 and was shunted at 11 months. She is a Micro preemie (born at 24 weeks gestation) and has done amazingly well with with her shunt.
She has never had a revision and never had any symptoms of a malfunction until the last month. Now she has had a regression of her speech, behavioral changes, mobility changes, and doesn't seem to be comprehending things like she was. We went to her doctor who actually really listened and ordered a CT. Which showed no major changes in the ventricals but he did go ahead and order a shutogram (which is tomorrow). I'm not sure what a shuntogram consist of. I know they put dye into the shunt to see if there is a blockage but beyond that I have no clue what to expect. So my questions are what to expect tomorrow? And could she still be having a Shunt malfunction even without changes on the CT? I guess I'm a little naive when it comes to her Hydrocephalus, I know the signs of a malfunction but I'm still nervous. Thanks for any help. Tia (Kats Mom) |
