My21 year old daughter has Intracranial hypertension (they think!?) that just began on 7/7/12. To date they have done 10 spinal taps to relieve the pressure. Now heres what is concerning me. She will just be sitting here and out of the blue her left cheek feels like its on fire and when you look at it its very red sometimes almost a purple tint to it and gets very hot. you can hold your hand away an inch and feel the heat radiate to it. Her right side is normal looking. I do want to add that when her pressure goes up only her left eye dialates and becomes fixed until a spinal tap is preformed and about 48 hours later the pupil will retract. Could this be associated with the hypertension? Maybe something to do with the mass amounts of fluid they pull off with the spinal taps? Maybe the spinal tap itself? She does take 2,000mg Diamox daily if that makes a difference to know. Yesterdays spinal tap pressure was 25 and he pulld 27cc fluid off and got to a ending pressure of 9. She will have another tap in a few days. (5-7 days apart until she can get medical coverage for a shunt to be placed) I just don't know if this is something new or assicaited with her new dianosis of IIH.
