Here is a list of the drugs with the most commonly reported adverse events:
http://www.pharmalot.com/2010/02/the...event-reports/ Notice Seroquel is #2.... causing more diabetes than all of the other atypical antipsychotics combined. (this may be due to the company detailing this drug to non-psychiatric patients for simple problems like insomnia) Fentanyl is #4 Acetaminophen is #11 (Tylenol) Cymbalta #12 Boniva #13 Levofloxacin (Levaquin) #14 And several in the middle are injectable biologicals for autoimmune disease, with Forteo for osteoporosis.

Whoa! Enbrel is #5 on the list!
I give myself an injection once a week and it helps my arthritis so much! I searched the report and couldn't find anything specific about what the adverse events for ETANERCEPT were. I could find this: http://www.rxlist.com/enbrel-drug.htm I wonder if a lot of people are getting TB. I know I get a TB test every year from my rheumatologist. And on an unrelated note, I looked at the QuarterWatch Report link and it talked about 'how two Zicam brand over-the-counter cold remedies were being blamed for people losing their sense of smell or taste, many permanently'. http://freepdfhosting.com/4194e9a84f.pdf Holy Moley! That explains why we haven't been able to find the type on the shelf that worked for us! Glad they pulled it! Can't wait to tell my husband about this! PS - doesn't surprise me about Cymbalta - I don't want to take it after dealing with Prednisone withdrawal.

This site gives medical reports about the various most commonly used drugs.
Here is the portion about Enbrel: http://patientsville.com/medication/...de_effects.htm Here is another --these reports are subjective in contrast to the patientsville site: http://www.askapatient.com/viewratin...95&name=ENBREL Basically drugs like Enbrel reduce your immune system. The most alarming effects are increased viral and bacterial infections. (some may be subtle and some acute) Enbrel has been linked to Non Hogdkins lymphoma, and this is thought to be a viral link. It is showing up in younger patients treated as youths, who then develop lymphoma later as they age. If you feel your response to the Enbrel is less that great, it would be time to discuss this drug with your doctor to see if you could do without it. It is a major decision and a major causer of other serious things down the road.

Thanks Mrs D, I am on cymbalta, I see it is number 12, I am really worried about taking this drug after all the things I have read about it and I feel it is only doing half the job regarding releiving my pain, but not sure what I should do.
Thanks Lesley |

I'm about to talk to docs about 'forteo' and now this? Lots of fodder to take in before tomorrow AM! YIKES!
![]() Good to keep ahead of the 'curve' knowledge-wise, you know? Keep your fingers crossed that my tests come out good enuf that I won't need it? I seem to be losing ground fast in the 'bone department'! You are a gem, as always! - j |

This list does not mean you should stop or not consider a specific drug that is problematic.
What it does do is remind prospective and current patients to research their own situation, and the drugs, and to be very vigilant for side effects. Some may choose not to use the drug based on their own benefit vs risk status. But some people may HAVE to use one of them, if their situation is extreme. A drug like Cymbalta, is obviously liver toxic, so another antidepressant may work as well, without that effect. Forteo, is less problematic for bones, than the bisphosphonates, but it has the pancreatic side effects instead. Using the link I gave to patientsville.com may help people to decide.
