Default Lyrica: The Good, Bad and Indifferent

It was suggested in this thread that perhaps a new thread on Lyrica might be a good idea. Since it is so commonly prescribed for neuropathy I agree this may be beneficial to share with folks considering this treatment per their doctor.

Thumbs up Go For It

Yea Andy! A new thread!!

Blow the dust off of the forum, and bring in FRESH dialogue....

Yup, I consumed a large amount of Lyrica......

Maybe that is partly why I am larger than I like......

Workin on that,

Default Yep! I got that too!

I wasn't on it very long nor did I take real large doses (doc had me up to 55Mg/day) but I definitely noticed a marked increase in appetite AND a 17-pound increase in weight. No question in my mind had I continued to take it I would have continued to gain weight.

It was frustrating because it did help the pain but I literally could not handle the memory loss. I think I ended up asking one gal about upgrading her laptop 5 times. I finally had to apologize and explain I had been on a drug that was wiping my short-term memory.

Instead of just linking to the other forum I'm going to paste my posts from there.

I have to say I am extremely concerned...something is really wrong with my memory and I don't know if it's Lyrica or not. My doctor recently increased my dose to a whopping 550Mg/day in an attempt to help neuropathy.
I have rather gradually noticed a horrible decrease in memory over the past few months and it's so bad right now I have 'blank-outs' where I do something then seconds later completely forget what I've done. It doesn't happen often but it's happened.
Just wondering if Lyrica can even possibly be the cause.
I've moved my pain care to a specialist and she has actually told me, as of yesterday, to decrease my dose down to 300mg/day and only once per day, at night. I HOPE this helps (not to mention the weight gain I've experienced).
Then a few months later:

Since I'm already posting here I'll give an update. I dropped Lyrica like a hot potato and almost immediately dropped 17 pounds...and my memory has dramatically improved over the past several weeks. It's still not what it used to be prior to Lyrica but it's better. Good timing because technology is taking massive leaps forward these days and I MUST have my memory/cognative functions as sharp as possible or I'll find myself w/o a job real quick.

If you're unsure about whether to take this or not PLEASE hear me: It's not worth it unless you do not care about these things. If you're a totally disabled person, living at home and a sharp memory isn't important then I do have to say that my pain has also returned with a vengeance. This drug DOES help (or it did me, anyway) with neuropathy - but the trade-off is very real to me and many others out here. I promise I am a real person and these are REAL events that happened to me. This drug is BAD NEWS.
There are (as I write this) 126 posts in the forum and it's entitled, "Does anyone taking Lyrica have memory loss?" and there are some good posts in here.

Default Lyrica Withdrawal

I just started a new thread as well, dealing specifically with all of the problems that lyrica withdrawal cause. What a nightmare!
