This isn't really a neuro related med question...I'm just very upset over something that is related to my medications right now and I'm just needing to type it and vent if that's ok??
At present, I have no ins coverage for prescriptions. I'm able to get many of them for $10 thru a couple of mail order companies. However..with hereditary osteoporosis as well as hereditary high cholesterol...my doctor has prescribed such meds as Fosamax, Crestor, and Zetia. The Crestor I can get for $40 (not too bad) but the Fosamax and Zetia are too new to be on the discounted drug lists at local pharmacies or mail order companies. My husband about went through the roof today when I told him that the Zetia is $225 for a 3 month supply!! We're pinching pennies right now as is, and I'm just wanting to say forget it and just take the Crestor and carefully (more than I'm already doing) watch my diet. I'm eating flaxseed bread and whole grains, avoiding all the fried items, the eggs...but that price for med just sends my blood boiling. Thanks, I feel much better now...LOL...just had to type it and get it off my chest!!!!! Marilyn |

Hi Marilyn --
(((((((Marilyn)))))))) (I just love your screen name!) I hear you!!!!! I think that the price of meds is so stressful that people almost need twice as much to overcome the damage from the stress. And I'm not entirely joking. Except that your topic caught my eye, I was going to go to sleep because I'm drastically tired. But now that I'm here I want to mention a couple things, one is that after I started getting B12 replacement therapy, my health changed remarkably. The other thing is that after a woman who came to my site told me about the Eat Right for Your Blood Type diet and I switched from eating potatoes and pasta to eating brown rice, the change in my health was ... it was so much better than I could have imagined was possible... that's because low B12 can result in some gastrointestinal problems that are so unfun... and the doc I was seeing at the time had told me that I'd just have to get used to having diarrhea because it went with the territory if someone was B12 deficient... so now I eat brown rice... and it also helps me lose weight... (I found something the other day that had a scientific reason for why that would be... but I didn't copy it down... and now I don't want to spend the time to try to find it again...) I hope you don't mind me writing this much to you. See, the thing with B12 is that is very effective for certain kinds of things, and it's extremely cost effective... and so is brown rice. (((((((((Marilyn)))))))))

Hi,you shouls ask your doctor to switch to Vyortin,( it zorcor and zeita) if your going to pay higher prices for zita it would be cheaper to take a combo drug.

Don't forget about asking your docs for samples. I work in a doctors' office, and we move TONS of samples through there every day, especially the newer cholesterol meds, Fosamax, Boniva, etc etc.

The best thing you can do is apply to the drug company's own prescription assistance program. They want you taking their drug!
