Default Can change be good

I have been taking percocet 5/325 2-4 a day for Pain, it has been 10 months now and it doesn't provide as much relief as it used to. I know my doc can up the dose, but i really don't want to take more. I was wondering if I switched to another pain medication other than percocet, maybe vicodin or something. I heard others had a new found releif in something different, any thoughts. Thank you
