RLS seems to be helped most by Neurontin and when it REALLY is bothering, like 2am with no relief in sight, I use Oxycodone. I have not used Ox. in a few weeks, as I am trying to keep my opiates to a minimum.

I tried LidoDerm pain patches for RLS, no help.

I have used Valium for muscle cramps, when Qualiquin is not available. It seems to relieve the muscle cramps quite well, but who can really say about any med giving specific relief?

Example, I think I am going to have back pains tonight because I dug in the garden today, so I will take 30mg of Ox. And I get to sleep just fine. Now, did I really "Prevent" back pain, etc. by taking Oxycodone? Or maybe I wasn't going to have bad pains anyway?

I take the 300mg of Neurontin as a maint. medication. I keep enough in my system to override RLS and if it "breaks through" the 300mg, I can still take Ox.

Anyway, it works for me so far.

You didn't mention any health issues or age with your dad. I was
57 when they gave me 900mg a day. Every human is different, so whatever he gets, they will probably start him on the low end.

I'm new here but have you tried the Fentayl Patch? It releases in your body slowly so you get a constant stream of pain relief but since it is slow reacting, you don't get sleepy. My sis in law took it for years and felt great....never got that narcotic zombie effect, sick, or sleepy. Normally, once you start a med like that though it is for life or you have to be weaned off. But you can feel relief from pain. I feel Motrin is over rated. For swelling it's great but not for anything else. My husband hated Neurontin but tkaes Lamictal and loves that. It helps him a lot with his Carpal Tunnel and his MANY facet joint problems. Maybe you should get away from your PCP, they are NOT very good with pain. Mine gave me 1- 7.5 mg hydrocodone a day and I cried to him for months that it didn't help. He felt that it should and wouldn't listen. I didn't sufer from a broken arm but chronic pain and I don't think they understand the difference, unless they suffer it. Find a good reputable pain management Dr and they will help you more than anyone. Good Luck!! ( all Nerve pain)
