What exactly is an MRI or EEG? Is the MRI where they have you lay still on a board inside a big tube/circle machine while it takes pictures? What do they do for an EEG?

A tunnel machine that's silent and they take pictures of various organs is called a CT Scanner.
A tunnel machine that makes a big noise like jack hammers is the MRI. That takes pictures of nerves... and is mostly used for pictures of the brain.... but is also used for pictures of the nerves in any other part of the body. An EEG is were they take a graph of the electrical impulses of the brain. They just put electrodes on your head, and you just sit quietly while they take measurements, or a graph, of your brain waves. I've had all of these, and all are pain free. All give different measurements that help your doctor in his/her diagnosis.

I have had EKG's (is that where they attach all those stickies to your chest?), but not much else. How much does it cost? Do you think insurance would cover it?

Yes, the EKG one is where they put electrodes on your chest to get information about the impulses from your heart.
The EEG is very similar, but gives information about the electrical impulses from your brain. I wish I could give you information about the costs, but I live in a different country to you so unfortunately I can't. Hopefully some-one else will come along soon with more information that I can give. ![]()

Buffheart if you are having new neurological issues it it is probably advisable to have the an MRI. If you are in the US and have insurance, yes they should cover it, but you will need a doctor to order it. Have you seen a neurologist?

My doctor doesn't seem to think it is a big deal, and I don't know what to look for to tell him and see if he can think of a diagnosis. I don't want to be like those people who annoy their doctor because they think they have all these serious things, but it is minor
