Hi Dejibo -- hope you are feeling better soon. I'll tell ya...I have become such a germaphobe since I got mono, which seemed to morph into MS, and now I'm Tysabri which makes me worry about infection. I have LOTS of purell in my office, my car, my book bag, my purse, my house! If I'm in a store, the first thing I do when I get in the car is wipe my hands with Purell. Anyhow, the good thing is that now you are immune to that particular flu...so if it hangs around and comes back next year you are set! But in the meantime, sorry you are feeling cruddy.

dej,

i'm sorry you were so sick but glad you're on the mend and beat this.
hopefully now you'll have immunity. and you were such a good sport about trying not to infect anyone else.

get well quick.

That is awful. I hope you get over it quickly and DH, family and friends don't get it. It doesn't sound like a nice cough/fever to have. Yikes! Well at least you had it, and the worry is over for you. Is there lifetime immunity now to any variant?

Is that how easy they can test for it? Right there in the MD's office? That is fast. I thought they had to send it out to a lab. I am glad your case didn't require a hospital visit.

My MD said "most" get a fever of at least 101. He said that some reach 104, but that is usually when other issues are starting to set in such as bronchitis, or pnuemonia. I have not heard of a case of a "feverless flu"

I have an immunity to "THIS" strain of the flu. Just like regular flu, this crap morphs, and twists itself into new strains and varients. That is the thing I questioned about the flu vaccine. Are they able to correctly ID the strain we are shooting for? Same for the regular flu vaccine each year. We GUESS at the strain we are fighting, and some years we are wrong.

My test will be sent to the State Health Lab to be counted in the stats for the state. It will be confirmed by them. There is a college pretty close by, and they have about a dozen students who are reporting "flu like" sx. The nurse at the college is sending their tests to the State Board of Health for confirmation. They do have a "rapid" test available at the MD office.

Glad you're feeling better, and Thanks! for trying to keep your germs to yourself.

Dh and I went out to eat and a young lady - 20-22 - came in to meet some friends. One of them asked her something, I didn't catch. She says, "The doc says I have swine flu - can you believe that?"

I was glad we were done, waiting for the check so we could leave!

She's sitting right behind us, sniffling and hacking. Thanks, kid - not! I bet her friends were really impressed too. That is how things like this spread. Some people have no sense at all.

I'm not worried about me, I never catch anything, and if I did, I'd get over it. But dh doesn't need to get sick. He has to work. and there were a LOT of older people in the restaurant that morning.
