It's not out yet but lets hope it's a great one. I'm 99% complete C6-C7 spinal cord injury + M.S. Meanwhile I'll still wish for Interferon Alfa-n3 & estriol back on market. |

Thanks Edife,
I wonder what the cost will be? Even oral drugs seem to cost the same as the injectables. I hope it gets out of the pipeline and onto the market place. We need more choices other than injecting or infusion. ![]() BTW, Quote:
PS: isn't 4-AP an older drug? Or do I have it mixed up with another?

Fampradine is 4-AP and available from a compounding Pharmacy (they make it in tab. form )and 4-AP does have a shelf life and older 4-AP may be less strong so try to go with recommended pharmacy. Although not yet FDA approved, it is available with a doctor's prescription. I have tried it (live in Maryland, got from recommened pharmacy in AZ from a Pharmacist friend knows.) I am in a chair, PPMS - did not help me but I knew it probably would not (my sit.- going in.) Was inexpensive as it is now generic , Can possibly have side effects (like everything!) and worth investigating. Talk to your neuro. Like Interferons and other CRABS it has@@@@33% success rate I think. May be right for you. Never know until ypu try. Have heard yes and nopes about it, like everything. Internet has info - use generic name to look up.

I want to try Fingolimod (company - Novartus- Switzerland based) which has completed Stage three Clinical trials, FDA likes, some success (RR and some PP), hear/hope to see it 2010 or so on Market. I'll try anything. Hey, you never know. While your neuro can be an exceelent source of info, keep yourself updated on stuff as we have a personal, more self-driven need)

Tomorrow, October 22 2009, the FDA will say Yes - No - or continue Trials.
I did't read the other post about 25' walks. I didnt see a co. or drug name so I didnt read it. This drug WAS tested with 25' walk times and improved but I didnt get hard #'s. Lets hope it gets the green light. Give it 6-8 weeks if it happens. I'll research it more if approved. edit - I just read 25' walk post and see this drug is what he's talking about. antibiotic - 2 days ago I got script for Minocycline which was studied with Copaxone and helped. I'll take all 3 maybe? |

You can get the Generic form of Fampridine (4-AP) with a physican's prescription and finding a RELIABLE compounding pharmacy. While not FDA approved for MS use, it is available. For some it helps apparently, for others (Me), it doesn't. Goodluck!!

My neuro gave a lecture on Tues. about drugs in trials and those getting or about to get approval...I think he said this one might be in the market next spring (can't remember if it was this one or the oral dmd). he is hopeful for those still mobile but with gait issues. He said he didn't think it would assist those already in wheelchairs/scooters.

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. (AP) -- Acorda Therapeutics Inc. said Thursday the Food and Drug Administration delayed a ruling on its multiple sclerosis drug candidate Fampridine-SR by three months.
The agency was due to make a decision by Thursday, but the ruling is now due by Jan. 22, 2010. Acorda said the FDA extended its review because it recently submitted new information on its risk evaluation strategy for the drug. Acorda sent in the additional information following a meeting with an FDA panel on Oct. 14. The panel recommended that Fampridine-SR receive FDA approval. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/FDA-de....html?x=0&.v=1 jackD

Guess i'll be on Tysabri by then. The guy at Acorda sounded promising too. As someone has stated, this drug/formulation already exists somewhere somehow. |

Sort of OT: Or maybe not!
I really wish that when they name a drug, for MS, or other medical purposes, it could be much different in spelling or pronouncing, than any other drug on the market. It totally messes with the mind. These two drugs are so similar in name it gets scary. Maybe add a different code or something. My Neuro prescribes Clonazepam (brand name Klonopin) for me but writes the script as ClonazePAM on her electronic pad, which is so easy to read. She can pull it off her computer and my pharmacy has no problem reading her writing because its all printed in font type, and then she capitalized the last three digits because it is close to another drug in spelling. Clorazepate (brand name) Tranxene. Which is a different drug. Always check the pills you get from your Pharmacy, accidents happen, wrong drugs get made in error, maybe due to handwritten scripts. Better safe than sorry. ![]()
