Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and to the knowledge of having MS. I have had an episode twice now, that I wonder if any of you have had. It begins with tremors in my arms (most noticeably when trying to write), then escalates, the tremors become quite severe and I begin to hyperventilate. The first time this happen, I went to the Emergency Room (via ambulance) where I stayed for several hours, they were unable to get a Neurologist/Neurosurgeon to come and check me out, so they sent me home. This happened again just a few days ago (this time I stayed home and rode out the storm), it is a very scary experience, when you realize you have no control over the situation and just have to ride it out. Is this a common experience with MS? |

Welcome to NT MS082009!
I have both essential tremors and MS tremors. I mostly notice them in my hands when they act up. I am on Neurontin for nerve pain and that keeps the tremors under control (extra benefit of the Neurontin). The best advice I can give is to try to remain calm. Under stress the tremors can become worse and create more anxiety which makes the tremors worse, which creates more anxiety, which . . . See the pattern. Take a deep breath and try the task again. Talk to your neuro about the tremors as they do have meds that help with it as well as some PT or OT. In the meantime, know that we are all here to help you and support you. ![]() ![]() |

Call your doctor because only he can truly determine what is causing the shaking your having. With that said, my husband had tremors in his arms when reaching for something. They prescribed Zanax and it worked beautifully.
What type of testing did they do at the er, if any?

I went to see my PCP (on Tuesday, November 10th), and did a pulmonary function test, because I don't breathe deeply and sometimes my lips turn blue. The PF test showed that with a breathing treatment, I breathed easier. So he gave me a "puffer" (of albuterol) to use. He also Rx atenolol, for my tremors, and I took it for the first time today. So far, it has diminished my tremors but has not rid them completely, so the "jury is still out". However, if it can prevent another "episode" that would be a God send. I will let you all know.

Hi MS082009, and welcome to the group! Tremors haven't been one of my symptoms, but I do take atenolol for my Mitral Valve Prolapse. Good luck to you and keep us posted!
