Of course its hard on you. I don't think I could do your job without being in pain either. Darn. Good for you for trying the yoga.

Good for Sally too for doing the housework and logging it in.

I Swam a mile today in a 84 degree pool and its is 84 degrees outside as well--I love FLorida weather.

ewizabeth 12-14-2009 04:11 PM

Wiz runs into the thread sweating and panting.... :Slip: Ok, I'm back!!! :D

I had a very bad cold so I was down for several days. Today I was feeling a bit better though and I did 40 minutes on the elliptical! :)

Vonn07 12-14-2009 04:58 PM

did my arm exercises with 3# weights ... 4 different reps ... each arm ..

and did 10 pushups - against the counter in the kitchen ...

remember to breathe!! :D

Erin524 12-14-2009 06:52 PM

I did my first day of physical therapy for my neck injury and the therapist guy said that now that I'm a patient there, they can help me with my MS crap along with the neck injury stuff.

Apparently I have bad posture and they're going to help me with that.

Today he showed me some exercises, and had me lay on a table with electrode-like thingies on the back of my neck while laying on some really wonderful hot pads while the electrode thingies made my neck twitch. (felt kinda good actually) The heat was really nice, even tho my left hand got a bit more numb from it, it was freezing in their office (we've got record cold temperatures right now) so the heat packs were really really nice. I think that was the best part of the whole session was that moist heat and the electrode thingies.

Then he stretched my neck a bit to help loosen muscles that are causing me problems in nerve roots and stuff. (wow, all sorts of technical crap)

He was saying that he didnt think I had slipped a disc in my cervical vertebrae, but that it is obvious that there's a spot on my neck where I might have pinched a nerve root. He could feel where it was and from the look on my face when he touched it that it was the sore spot.

He thought the physical therapy should help me a lot, at least on the neck pain from when I hurt my neck, and my back pain that I've had for the past several years.

I told him I had been walking on a treadmill up till when I hurt my neck, and he told me to get back into doing that. I think I'll do that tomorrow. (too cold and icy to drive down there today)

The PT was nice, and I go back wednesday. Too bad it'll be with a different person, I liked the guy who did the PT stuff today.

pud's friend 12-15-2009 03:05 AM

An early morning horse ride and grooming to beat the heat, then a top of 42 degrees this afternoon so into the pool for 15 minutes swim against two jets.
and an hour nap between the two :)

BOB FROM N.O. 12-15-2009 09:16 AM

Keep on Moving Club: December 2009

Now that the cold weather is here I not only swim, I walk in the pool.

One of our club's indoor pools is heated the other one is cold (for lap swimmers).

I do my exercises’ in the warm water. Three times a week. It works for me and I’m planning to stop using my walker.

Keep the bones moving?
BOB

BBS1951 12-15-2009 04:52 PM

Hey BOb, welcome to the club :) Good job! I know someone with MS who used to be in a wheelchair, but now walks unassisted since starting to exercise and stretch in a pool --go for it :)

Hi pud, nice job!

Great weight lifting Vonn.

I swam a mile today in the warm weather.

Erin524 12-15-2009 07:03 PM

I moved some furniture. With the help of the handy dandy furniture sliders.

Oh, and I did some exercises they showed me at PT yesterday.

I need to do some more exercise. I might grab my dad and go down to the gym tonight and do some walking. At least it's cold enough now that if I get overheated while walking, I dont have to worry about that for long once I go outside. (I think it's like 4 degrees outside)

pud's friend 12-16-2009 03:30 AM

30 minutes swim on two jets with lots of floating and stretching too.
no ponies; it's too hot. and no nap required...

Vonn07 12-16-2009 11:13 AM

started wearing my 'step-clip' ... and yesterday - only made 1000 steps ... so, I'm going to work at doing more today ... goal is 10,000 steps a day (that's what Dr.Oz says!):p

BBS1951 12-16-2009 07:03 PM

Good job Erin, starting to move around.

Vonn, thats a great goal. How many steps a day are you increasing the number of steps by?

pud, the water is a fabulous place to move around, no?

I swam a mile today.

Debbie D 12-17-2009 05:59 PM

I went over to the gym and walked for 35 minutes on the track, just like the surgeon said I could...actually got a sweat up.
Then I used 8 lb. free weights and did some upper body work for the first time since surgery...felt great using my body...whoo-hoo!:D

Erin524 12-17-2009 07:11 PM

I actually went to the gym today with my dad. Walked on the treadmill for a little over a half hour.

Read some of my Stargate SG-1 novel on my Kindle...that reminds me. I forgot to turn it off...better go do that now.

My dad hadnt been to the gym for several weeks. Mostly because my mom has been kinda...needy, and constantly wanted to go out to eat or be entertained during my dad's usual workout time. But, a blizzard and a bad cold kind of interfered with his schedule too.

I wanted him to get back there. He's got a heart condition and he needs to keep in shape to keep his heart healthy. Plus, he gets a little depressed if he's not exercising.

That's the other reason I went with him. Didnt really give him any excuse to skip it.

BBS1951 12-17-2009 07:38 PM

Erin, you and your dad can egg each other on, and encourage each other!

Debbie, nice job at the gym.

I swam a mile in the cold rain today.

ewizabeth 12-17-2009 08:18 PM

Day before yesterday I did some exercises in place with weights and such then stretching for 15 minutes. Today I did my Pilates abs workout for 20 minutes. I'm chasing the kitties up and down stairs a lot and I think it's wearing me out! :) Tomorrow I want to do my Pilates leg/thigh workout (also 20 minutes.)

BBS1951 12-18-2009 04:23 PM

I love taht kitty picture. Good going on the exercise!

I swam a mile today in a not so warm pool.

Dejibo 12-18-2009 04:38 PM

havent chimed in for a bit. I have had tummy issues, and other nonsense going on, like husband with shingles, and company from out of town. I have dropped 20 pounds in the last month! My tummy is bugging me! I have been trying to walk, and do core exercises, and yoga and warm things indoors, but have been distracted. Thanks for the hugs and cheerleaders.

pud's friend 12-19-2009 03:22 AM

Half an hour swim on two jets which knackered me. I was still half asleep from my hellish night and an early morning diazepam.

Followed up by a slab of chocolate orange fudge cake.

Erin524 12-19-2009 02:44 PM

Did physical therapy yesterday afternoon before I left for my date with my boyfriend.

We went to Ameristar Casino and ate at their buffet. :D Prime rib...and then a bunch of desserts from the dessert bar. They have a chocolate fountain!

Nutter butters, marshmallows, fresh strawberries, pretzls and caramel apples are tasty when dipped in a big chocolate fountain.

I also had somewhat healthy desserts. (hey, I like dessert!) They had something that was some sort of strawberry flavored cream stuff, with strawberry sauce on it. (it was stale, didnt eat it all, but hey, it was made with strawberries and those are healthy, right?)

I also had a chocolate mousse (sounds like moose? cant think of how to spell it?) that had whipped cream and fresh blackberries on top. I'd never had blackberries before. The blackberries tasted better than the chocolate! (and blackberries are healthy too, right?)

And then there was this little cake-like cup thing, that had something like a pudding (fruity flavor of some sort) and it had raspberries and blackberries and blueberries on top. (fresh fruit)

I gave the raspberry to my boyfriend (I dont like those) and ate the rest of it. So, I had all that fruit, and fruit is healthy right?

Then my boyfriend and I went and walked around a bunch. Didnt go into the casino because it'd just be a waste of money. We got our money's worth at the buffet.

BBS1951 12-19-2009 05:39 PM

Oh Erin, that is soooo not on the Swank Diet!!

Good to see you Dejibo: Sorry about the stresses, but good to see you moving around.

Hi Pud: IS that an indoor pool?

I swam a mile today in 77 degree pool, 63 air temp, 25-30 mph winds. Cold!

ewizabeth 12-19-2009 09:17 PM

I did my 20 minutes of hip/thigh pilates yesterday, then 35 minutes on the elliptical today. :) I'm so proud of myself! :D

Today I did a lot of cooking for tomorrow's Christmas party at my sister's house. So I'll stuff myself silly tomorrow and likely not work out. :o

I made my famous pasta salad, a gorgonzola/spinach dip and DS is making southwestern eggrolls and a creamy cilantro dip to go with them. :)

pud's friend 12-20-2009 05:42 PM

Yesterday had a quick horse ride (token gesture really) and had complete jelly legs when i got off, not nice.
Today just shopping and a Kinesiology appt and playing with new tractor :D

BB; it's a swim spa, 7ooo litres, under the carport. Has jets you swim against and a spa bit at each corner for a massage. :o

BBS1951 12-20-2009 06:28 PM

Ewiz, watch out for that very non Swank food!

Puds, if you ever have apic of it you could upload, I'm curious. how much does it cost? How much does it cost to keep it warm? How cold do your nights get in the winter? If it gets down to 45 degrees at night, will it still be warm enuf the following morning if it's covered and heated? is it the "Endless Pool"?

pud's friend 12-21-2009 04:15 AM

Here's the one I've got but another maker.
http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgu...ed=0CCMQ9QEwBA

It has 4 jets and adjustable speed for all four, multi directional, massage jets at the top and 2 bucket seats at the bottom to chill in and get a super massage.
The cover is hard and fits snugly on top, but easy to pull off too.
Our leccy bills aren't that bad seeing as I often heat the water from 20 odd to 30 overnight. Takes an hour per degree to heat. Chemicals aren't dear. Takes a real cold night to cool it past 5 degrees.
Our winter nights are 5 degrees and long summers. I tend not to use it in winter; too much heating and running outside in a cossie aint good for the chest.
I love it. But it's so well insulated that on a hot day, it doesn't heat up beyond a point naturally or absorb outside heat overnight as it were.
It was Aus $20,000. A mighty extravagance.
an endless pool indeed.

Its very tempting Pud. Thanks for posting it.

Give me some feedback here if you would: The winters here sometimes get down to mid forties at night and only up to upper 50s daytime. Do you think this could retain enough heat? And, do you think it would cost more than about$5 per day to heat it?

I swam in the 77 degree pool today and it was 48F air temp: cold, cold and cold.

Vonn07 12-22-2009 10:39 AM

sorry .. I received the call on Friday about the apartment - they want a co-signer ... hmm, interesting when I'm single & 50 .. that's okay tho - I believe that something better is out there for me then!

in the meantime - I've been cleaning and reorganizing my livingroom and emptied off the library and gave it to my neighbor (he carves ducks, pheasants, etc) ... when I stopped by his apt to return some pails - he had it all filled up with his creations!! it looked better in his place than it did in mine!! I was so happy!!

all day on sunday - I dusted, vacuumed and rearranged furniture ... still debating about unpacking boxes tho ... because I will be moving sometime in April or May .. and the stuff in boxes is just 'fluff' anyways ...

today?? folding and addressing my annual Christmas letters!! (mostly to my tax clients that I started about 10 years ago ... now I have over 150 to mail out!) but - will tell them about my quilt program ... keeps me moving!!:p

BBS1951 12-22-2009 05:53 PM

Good job Vonn!

I swam a mile today. I am going on vacay, and will be back SUnday night or Monday morning. PLease kee pthe thread going and support each others efforts!

sabimax 12-22-2009 06:47 PM

yeahhh for swimmers, movers and shakers!!

just my work moving around crazy but otherwise maybe yoga tonight.. as my back and shoulders ache....:( ache is a mild description...

Merry Christmas to all, hugss to all, sarah

Erin524 12-23-2009 12:37 AM

I got run over by a Pride Victory scooter today. (yes. Really...and those things move fast and cant be stopped easily from the front like the scooters that WalMart provides. I can usually stop those with a hand and a little bit of pressure when I'm about to be run over by someone who's easily distracted by shiny things) This was like getting hit by a Mini Cooper or a golf cart.

My neck is back to being in pain, and my arms, shoulders and hands hurt, and I think I turned my ankle and both knees just a little bit. (glancing blow...I got spun around after I put my hands out to try to protect my knees from getting smashed by the front of the scooter)

Learned one thing, I now know why my mom isnt going to ever be allowed to drive a car again. (she's got some seriously baaaad judgement skills) I also know not to stand in front of her when she's on the scooter (especially when she's mad and acting a bit pre-Alzheimer-ish). Maybe I shouldnt stand directly behind her either?

The adrenaline rush and being a bit...ticked after that, and I just locked myself in my room and took a Flexeril and took a 2hr nap instead of going to exercise. I was so mad and not fit to be around people that I would have ticked off a lot of people down at the gym.

I wont be doing any exercise till after Christmas because we're about to get another huge blizzard (we've got freezing drizzle putting a nice icy patina on everything right now...it'll be ice rain by morning) Blizzard isnt supposed to be over till saturday morning.

Only exercise I'll be getting will be climbing up and down the stairs here at home when I really bored. (I've already done all my laundry and put it away...I'm going to be really bored later)

Laundry can be considered exercise, cant it?

pud's friend 12-23-2009 03:46 AM

Slow day today though I did swim yesterday.
It's been 110 degrees so I've had enough on my plate keeping the animals cool. We've made a start on slashing the paddocks so lots of fence and gate maintenance and walking .

BB; i couldn't tell you. Our leccy bills are usually around Aus$25 a week running a fence, air con, pool and lights. So I suppose it's not that bad on power. It does tend to cool down over winter but if it was more enclosed (like in an outdoor room) it would hold its heat better.

Debbie D 12-23-2009 03:09 PM

DH and I walked around downtown Chicago for 3 hours yesterday...legs were achy today, but now they're okay.

I discussed with the surgeon the possibility of weight training or swimming now that I'm 6 weeks post op. He said Nope. Just walking:mad:for 6 more weeks.
I do sit and lift 8 lb. weights just to get some upper body work. But he said no weight machines.
I'm going to do some light cleaning today; dusting, clean bathrooms, try to clean tile floors with a swifter (although I'm not supposed to do that motion).

ewizabeth 12-23-2009 07:49 PM

I did 25 minutes of TaeBo basic. :)

Erin524 12-23-2009 08:09 PM

I went grocery shopping with my parents. During an ice storm, just before a big blizzard hits on the day before Christmas eve when people normally do their last minute stuff.

I'm going to have nightmares. I'm still dizzy from the crowds of people (and the samples of Baily's Irish Creme that I tasted...I needed those samples tho) People were fighting over fresh turkeys...the parking lot was scary.

Took forever to do the grocery shopping too.

I wanted to go to the gym and do some treadmill, but my dad was tired from the shopping, and the ice rain is starting to get really bad now...plus, my dad said that we got our exercise from dodging all the crazies at the grocery store.

I seem to use everyday chores for exercise sometimes.

Debbie D 12-23-2009 09:03 PM

Erin,
I know what your talking about...the stress of maneuvering the cart through the aisles actually had me sweating today...I'm not kidding!
I wonder if stress is considered an aerobic activity?

I wish we had that at our store here! :p I love Baileys! :D

Erin524 12-23-2009 10:20 PM

I didnt even have a cart! My dad had the shopping cart, and my mom was having a hell of a time manuevering the store scooter thru all the insane people and the badly placed displays of stuff. (think she may have knocked something over, but another customer might have been responsible for the thing getting knocked down. At least when mom tried to help pick it up, another customer told her not to worry, they'd try to pick it up if an employee didnt show up. and I saw them actually do it...so at least one person there wasnt totally nuts)

I'm just glad that we only needed a small amount of stuff. Orange marmalade for our bagels, eggs for the cornbread...can of beans for the chili. Baked potatoes to put chili on... Mustard...(oh darn, we forgot the pastrami! we also forgot the ice melt)

Walking thru all those people was so disorienting. I'm still a little punchy from it all, and it's almost 930pm, we were at the store around 4pm.

I was so happy to get out of there, that I volunteered to walk thru the rainy, icy parking lot to get the car and pick up my parents. That rain felt good, even with the ice pellets that hurt when they hit skin.

We went down to Panera for sandwiches and soup after that...one of the employees in there must have been really cold or something. It was sweltering in there. It had to have been close to 90 in there. My dad and I had to take our sweatshirts off...good thing we wear layers and had t-shirts on underneath. It made my eyes weird being in that heat. I dont know if they were baking stuff like mad, or if the heat was malfunctioning. It was super hot. Too hot.

Vonn07 12-24-2009 10:49 AM

Hi all ...

been doing my arm exercises and some pushups ... and today: my sewing exercises!

stand for awhile - press and cut
sit for awhile - sew
stand for awhile - press somemore

up/down up/down ...

have a great day!!

Erin524 12-24-2009 03:32 PM

Our snowpocalypse has arrived. I got bored earlier and walked up and down the stairs for a few minutes to get some exercise.

But now, I'm munching on M&M's. (I was hungry! and the chili isnt quite ready yet) I think I'll have to go walk up and down the stairs some more. Or do laundry...

I wonder if we have anything else to wash that I could do?? I think I did it all already yesterday when I was bored and my dad gave me his laundry to do to kill the boredom.

Vonn07 12-25-2009 11:23 AM

I danced to a 'rockin' Jingle Bells song!!

pud's friend 12-25-2009 05:58 PM

Had a late swim yesterday, moved some furniture and kept my arm exercised by putting copious amounts of ferrero rocher into my mouth.
