BBS1951 01-11-2010 05:36 PM

I walked indoors for an hour. It was too freezing out this morning to swim... our heater burnt up in the middle of the night...luckily we got it fixed this afternoon. One mroe day of freezing.

Erin524 01-11-2010 10:59 PM

I'm doing laundry right now. I let it pile up more than I usually do. Just got done sorting most of it, and then had to go hunt down the laundry buckets...which were in the garage...in a pile of slush, for some reason.

Washed off the laundry buckets in my parents shower. Then dried them.

Then I had to rest for a little while before I went and loaded up the piles of laundry into their own little bucket.

Then rested some more.

Thankgoodness my mom's stair lift works great as a laundry lifter. Otherwise I wouldnt have gotten any laundry done tonight. My back hurts from all the bending over to pick stuff up...It's a good thing I actually like doing laundry.

Debbie D 01-12-2010 02:42 PM

Did my usual 30 min. walk around the track, then upper body weights...kind of boring after a few weeks. I can't wait to get the surgeon's release to get back to regular exercise...:o

BBS1951 01-12-2010 04:57 PM

Good job Debbie. I find weight lifting boring too, but I do it for the bones.

I swam a mile today.

Dejibo 01-13-2010 06:24 PM

Still in a flare, so not doing much, but did plug in my Wii Fit Plus for 10 mins. I am exhausted, so thats enough of that. Maybe another day.

BBS1951 01-13-2010 06:56 PM

I was wondering how you were doing Dejibo. Good for you for doing the Wii. Rest is so important during a flare.

I did swim a mile today. It was wonderful fun.

Erin524 01-14-2010 01:19 AM

I went to the gym today with my dad, and did some treadmilling for a little over a half hour. It felt really good for some reason.

My left foot is killing me now. (arthritis or something in my left big toe and the one next to it. It's been like that since I was a pre-teen, just never been so painful) Then when I was on the floor, setting my computer up in the new desk, I was trying to stand up and somehow my right big toe got caught up on the carpeting and I ended up hyper-extending that toe and so now I have two big toes that really hurt.

Hopefully they'll both quit hurting, or the pain will lighten up enough that I can walk without crying.

At least I got some walking done before things started to hurt. I'll probably go and do more tomorrow as long as my feet will let me.

ewizabeth 01-14-2010 08:10 AM

I did 25 minutes on the elliptical at the hotel yesterday.

BBS1951 01-14-2010 08:16 PM

Good going Erin--keep up the great moving :)

Hi Ewiz--thats terrific :)

I swam my mile today. It was finally warm enough to not use a wetsuit.

BBS1951 01-16-2010 01:45 PM

One mile swim today :)

Erin524 01-16-2010 02:03 PM

Exercised yesterday afternoon after going to the dentist. Did a little more than a half hour on the treadmill.

Today I'm popping baclofen's like Tic-Tacs, muscles are all sore for some reason. (I tense up at the dentist office sometimes...maybe that's part of it?) I did have an H1N1 vaccine the other day...wondering if I'm sore and stiff as a reaction to that?

SallyC 01-16-2010 02:05 PM

I'm moving around better, now that my scooter has a new tire. :)

Stretching is still my best exercise. :)

pud's friend 01-16-2010 06:05 PM

Swimming every other day.
Grooming and pampering ponies.
Lots of daytime sleeps on the sofa.

Keep On Moving Club: January 2010

Swimming does it for me.

I belong to a health club when the weather is cold and we have several pools where I live so when the weather permits it’s the pool at home.

Last summer I did over work but now I pace myself.

BBS1951 can swim a mile, I wish I could. I do what the body tells me.

ewizabeth 01-17-2010 12:29 AM

I did 20 minutes of Pilates today (lower body workout.) I hope to do the abs workout tomorrow. Monday I work 10-7 then 8-5 in the training center in the suburbs Tues-Fri and I can work out in the gym at the hotel a couple of times during the week. :)

During training it's hard to work out because of all that's going on. It should get easier when I finish and have a regular work schedule and sleeping in my own bed and being pampered by DH. :)

Debbie D 01-17-2010 09:04 AM

DH and I walked around the Boat Show for 3+ hours yesterday, until my legs gave out:(
I didn't work out much this week, and lost 2 lbs. When I work out more, I don't lose much. Huh:confused:

sabimax 01-17-2010 09:42 AM

short walk yesterday, and the sun is shining so although 28 degrees back out walking today. Today though I will take no kids so it will be a longer walk and faster pace! maybe fit in some yoga later after football watching. hugss all, sarah

BBS1951 01-17-2010 06:27 PM

Wow! Our club is getting so active.
Pud, do you swim in a public pool? What state are you in? Nice job by the way.

ewiz: Good for you for staying active while you are in training.

Hello Bob from N.O! Its good to see you here. I should say that I had to work up to a mile back in 2004. At that point in my life, I could not walk across a room without being winded. By swimming every day I worked up to the mile, and kept it up because I like feeling so "strong" in a cardiovascular kind of way. Tell us more about your swimming.

Debbie: thats a lot of walking! One reason people dont lose as much (or even sometimes gain) is that exercise increases appetite. Sometimes, too, people figure, "I exercised for 30 minutes so now I can treat myself to a donut!) Fact of the matter is, most exercise does not burn that much calorie. You have to swim an hour to burn 400 calories, for example.

28 degrees sabi! Good for you for walking and planning on more walking and yoga :)

I swam a mile today in a nice warm pool with warm air, but lots of wind!

BOB FROM N.O. 01-17-2010 09:29 PM

BBS1951

I stay in the pool at least one hour 3 times a week and I’m careful not to overdo it.

I enjoy going to the Health club here. It’s not only good exercise but I get to meet some nice people.

I must confess I’m not always swimming, I walk in the pool and I do some exercises’ also.

When I first joined the club I worked out with a group, bad idea. Now I work out at my own pace.

Did I mention the water is not cold it’s just right. Not bad for a 76 year old with MS.

congrats everybody on your stick-to-it-tiveness ... :Dancing-Chilli:

I meant. any 60 year old would be proud to look that good!!! I know you are 76..:)

Debbie D 01-18-2010 03:52 PM

Did my 30 min walk around the track and 15 min or so of upper body weight work. Then went after a shower to a food pantry, where I walked back and forth for 2 hrs. sorting donated food. My legs were screaming by the time I was done...:(

BBS1951 01-18-2010 07:22 PM

Bob: Good for you for all you are doing in the pool! I bet you really benefit from it.

Good job on keeping up the exercise Vonn.

Debbie: Bless you for helping out at the Food Pantry, and good job on the exercise. Do people donate useful food, or is it crap stuff like Lucky Charms etc.

I swam a mile today.

Debbie D 01-18-2010 10:11 PM

BBS,
No it's good stuff...lots of soup, pasta, beans, TP, diapers, etc...so much!! It's overwhelming, and it also breaks your heart to know that a community that is considered "affluent" has so much need. I belong to a group of women called "100 Women Who Care" who donate $100 each every quarter to a worthy charity in the area...was so happy to see our $$ in action today...
it's these small things that can make a difference...there's so much need...my heart beats for those in need, esp the poor...we are al a pink slip away from this devastation.
I pray for those with less...they give me the opportunity to reach out and give. I am blessed to be able to give...and I pray that all will be self-sufficient, in body and spirit..

What a wonderful thread. Keep On Moving Club: January 2010

It’s up to 65 replies. I was always under the impression that very few people with physical problems ever worked out.

From reading the posts it’s apparent a lot of people like us KEEP MOVING.

Thanks for sharing a piece of your lives with US.

Hi Debbie: My husband has been pestering me to join a club like that in our county. It sounds very similar to yours. Do you think its a national chain, or do you think that unrelated clubs are popping up everywhere? You go girl.

Hi Bob: Yes, we like to stay active and I think that it inspires others to think about how they can stay active, and how lack of activity simply worsens our balance and strength.

I swam a mile today.

TXBatman 01-20-2010 04:58 PM

Ok, I didn't run off and join the circus (though it was tempting...) I have just been on and off the bike less than usual and fighting off the winter crud. Did spin class last night and my heart rate was telling me I need to get back on the bike more if I am going to do the MS150 in April. Did 65 minutes spinning, max hr 97% of max, avg hr 77% of max, and ~1032 calories burned. I was beat afterwards, but I am going back for another class tonight...does that make me a masochist?

sabimax 01-20-2010 07:30 PM

walked last two days, yoga today!!

Dejibo 01-20-2010 08:04 PM

went to the homeless shelter last night, and helped not only feed the hungry, but we actually had enough help to get some sorting done in the food pantry. I was impressed with the stuff there. Loads of peanut butter, and ravioli type stuff, but also some nice staples like flours, sugars, and cake mixes!

Went for a walk today. Aimed for one mile. Made it half way and turned back into the driveway. I am still mid flare, and last night took a huge bite out of my energy.

Im still trying. :o

Debbie D 01-20-2010 08:38 PM

Dej, that's awesome:D

BBS, 100 Women Who Care is a national organization, so it's probably linked.

Today I stayed home; DS34 brought his dog and puppy over for a couple of hours, so I Wiid in the afternoon for 40 minutes...I was drenched by the time I was done:) am paying the price now, though...ankles/calves are spasming and hurting:(. But at least I worked out!

pud's friend 01-21-2010 03:55 AM

Well I'm frankly WORN out watching the tennis and the cycling here. We have the australian open (Federer tonight) and Lance is in town in the Tour Down Under.
Exhausting stuff watching it all.

Too hot to do much today (115 degrees). and I'm covered in cold sores so keeping out of the pool too. (BB- it's the everlasting swim jet spa. i don't do public pools- i have a wet floor phobia)

Dejibo 01-21-2010 09:29 AM

Pud? have you tried Llysine? can you get it there? its in the same place as the Vit D and Vit C stuff in American pharmacies. Its a true blessing when cold sores rule the day. Abbreva is a cream that really does help with killing the virus early too. 115 is insane! Hang in there.

I went for a walk this morn, and only made it half way again. I leave my drive and go right, its 1/2 mile to get back to my drive. If I keep going to the top of the road and back, its another 1/2 mile. I made only half the loop. Im just too tired, and its too cold.

BBS1951 01-21-2010 06:04 PM

Hi Debbie, good work out, but I'm sorry about the spasms. That stinks...

pud: When its that hot, its hard to do anything. Do you feel phobic if you wear flip flops. Thats what I do so I wont catch anything from the wet floors int he locker room

Hi Dejibo: Its not "only" a 1/2 mile. What you can say is, "Even though MS is kicking my butt right now, I proudly walked a 1/2 mile--"

It was up to 82 outside today so the swim was very nice in an otherwise cold pool of 79. One mile swim.

sabimax 01-21-2010 08:06 PM

walked today a bit not much else...

ewizabeth 01-21-2010 08:14 PM

I did 10 minutes on the treadmill and 20 on the elliptical this morning. :)

Dejibo 01-22-2010 09:25 AM

I got a pair of swim shoes to wear in the local pool. its heated in the winter, and I use them in the lake here. I hate stepping on icky things in the water, but what I hate worse is athletes feet! I always drag out my shoes when I go to strange pools, like the PT pool at the hospital. I chuck them in the washer at the end of the day, and add a touch of bleach. I have been AF free for many years since doing this. Even when traveling to strange motels/hotels.

I did 1/2 mile today. I didnt even push for the other half, and I am not going to beat myself up over it. I am going to try some Wii fit in a little while, and wanted to save energy. It was nice to be outside tho.

Debbie D 01-22-2010 02:41 PM

I got on a recumbant bike yesterday...broke the surgeon's rules, but I just can't walk well right now...it felt so good to work out without the severe shin and hip flexor spasms...
also did my upper body weight workout...
no workout today, though...legs are so tight after yesterday...just have to rest up, I guess...

BBS1951 01-22-2010 08:26 PM

You are doing very well Dejibo --keep up the great work. Do you not trust the chlorine in the pool to kill the AF fungus? Our pool is so deep, I never touch bottom anyway.

nice Job Debbie.I hope the rest helps.

Hi sabi: Good for you for getting out there.

ewiz: as always, nice job.

I swam a mile today.

Dejibo 01-23-2010 09:34 AM

walk 1/2 mile today. Have a headache, and just couldnt finish. I am going to sit in my chair and watch movies the rest of the day. Im done. :(
