Cross training is always a good idea! :D

Debbie D 02-11-2010 03:29 PM

Hee hee:) They did the slide thingy on The Biggest Loser this week...you copycat, Sal!!

I cleaned the house for 2 1/2 hours today...after lunch collapsed in the bed for about 20 min just to get some energy back...

BBS1951 02-11-2010 07:27 PM

Get better soon Sally-- careful with that indoor skiing!

It was 48 degrees outside, pool was 80, I swam a mile.

ewizabeth 02-11-2010 10:52 PM

I did 16 minutes on the elliptical today. It helped me get through the day (I think.)

BBS1951 02-12-2010 04:43 PM

Good job ewiz :)

I only swam 3/4 mile: Thunder got me out of the pool today. Geesh. I hate that.

BBS1951 02-13-2010 01:25 PM

It was just too cold in the water to swim in air that was nto even 50 degrees, so I jogged in place while watching TV for an hour. Thats not so fun...

TXBatman 02-13-2010 07:25 PM

Rode ~54.5 miles in about 3:30 ride time, 4:20 total time today. The temperature started at about 34F and never got above 40F while we were riding. It was by far the coldest I have ever been on the bike.

TXBatman 02-13-2010 07:26 PM

Forgot to add that I did a spin class friday afternoon for about 45 minutes...don't have my HR monitor handy to give details and my legs are too stiff to want to get up and go get it. :D

BBS1951 02-13-2010 10:27 PM

THree hours of riding--does it make your butt sore to ride that long? Good going txbatman :)

It does for me, lol.

I did 15 more minutes on the elliptical today at a harder and faster level.

Dejibo 02-14-2010 09:14 AM

not doing nuthin today! its a lazy day off. I have a box of chocolate covered strawberries, and I am not afraid to use them!

In a word...yes. I always tell people that the purpose of all the training rides isn't so much to get your fitness up to the ride, but to get your body ready to be on a bike that long. If you get good shorts and a seat that fits you right, the butt soreness thing isn't that bad. What lasts longer for me is the soreness in my neck from leaning forward into the wind and looking up to see down the road.

BBS1951 02-14-2010 04:21 PM

That does sound uncomfortable Tex.

Nice job Ewiz.

Dejibo No more than one choc strawberry per day per Dr. Swank's orders. That sat fat is not good for your flare!

I swam 1.25 miles today.

BBS1951 02-15-2010 05:35 PM

I swam a mile today :)

TXBatman 02-15-2010 05:38 PM

Nice job stretching out to a mile and a quarter BBS. Did the weather warm up yet?

ewizabeth 02-15-2010 09:00 PM

I did 38 minutes of Pilates today. :) I'm finally getting things caught up and used to my new job so I might have more time to exercise.

My legs are getting stronger too from standing all day at work. I suppose that counts as weight bearing exercise?

Dejibo 02-16-2010 09:30 AM

walked half mile today. I avoided the nut jobs house.

Debbie D 02-16-2010 03:00 PM

Wiz,
You're such a tiny thing, I really don't think standing for you would count as weight-bearing:p
Ugh...just didn't have a lot of energy today...did 24 min on a recumbant bike and 20 min of weight machines...15 min of stretches and I was a turkey-done!

BBS1951 02-16-2010 04:44 PM

Nope, it was cold and windy today, but the pool was warm so I swam a mile. I could probably swim miles and miles, but, I don't want to wreck my shoulder and then not be able to swim at all!

BBS1951 02-16-2010 04:46 PM

ewiz, I am thinking that standing does count as it stresses the bones so that it has to tear down and build back up bone material, no?

Dejibo: That's fantastic!!!! you are baaaaack :)

Hi Debbie, you minimize your accomplishment: you did alot!

sabimax 02-16-2010 05:19 PM

woohooo did not move for a week... BPPV or benign para.....something, positional vertigo... hit bad.. never had before... where some crystals get loose in ear or something... and so when you move your head the room spins wildly... awful.... dehydrated for two of the days... then on meds get better slowly... missed week of work now catching up.... WOW :(

thursday then I get some head positioning stuff done at ENT that is suppose to move the crystals to area where they disapate or something... who knows... I do know when they do it i will get the spins again :( but should cure whatever the heck this is....

so funny how when it hit me last Sunday, I was doing yoga.. something good for me, then was relaxing... moved my head to the left to get ready to get up and wham room spun and spun.... sucked...

hugss all, sarah

Debbie D 02-17-2010 01:53 PM

Sarah, I always get the spinning when I lie flat on my back..I always have to have a towel or pillow. Also when I turn the head it occasionally will produce it.

Did 30 min. on an elliptical...then got overheated afterwards and broke out in hives...I'll figure this whole thing out some day:rolleyes:

sabimax 02-17-2010 04:08 PM

Debbie, how do you live with that?? I could never have worked thru the room spinning so fast, and then I would vomit too... ugggg anyhow better with meds.. and tomorrow I go get some head positional stuff done at the ENT office... hoping it will keep this away for good...hugss,sarah might take a walk today after a nnap

BBS1951 02-17-2010 07:54 PM

sabi, vertigo is the worst, maybe it ties nausea. Gt better soon.

Hi Debbie, except for the hives, good workout. I used to get it when I lay down too (spinning), but it gradually went away. seems like lots of us MS patients are told they have BPV, which makes me wonder if it really is BPV rather than MS causing the vertigo.

It was too cold to swim this morning, so I walked/jogged for 30 minutes. I really hate walking.

doydie 02-17-2010 10:59 PM

I finally signed up for my swim classes at the Y today. I'll be in Silver splash and aqua joints. So I'll have somethingg 5 days a week. Just hope my old procrastinating body can do it My husband says I can't. That my be what it takes to make me do it.

Erin524 02-18-2010 04:47 AM

I'm going to try to go exercise tomorrow. I've been wanting to go for a few weeks, but just havent been able to get there more than once I think. (was feeling really MS-ish lately)

I'm going to go by myself tomorrow while my dad stays home with my mom and her broken shoulder, and then I'll stay home with my mom while my dad goes and exercises some. I dont do the super long exercise sessions like my dad does, so he wont have to wait long for me to get home.

I really need to start exercising more. I just keep having things get in the way of my getting out to do the real exercising.

I totally broke myself of taking the baclofen, and I havent noticed any extra spasticity. I've been doing some stretching exercises in the mornings and sometimes during the day when I've been sitting too much playing with the computer.

I've had a bunch of bad headaches lately tho. That's one of the things that's kept me from exercising on the treadmill.

Dejibo 02-18-2010 07:43 AM

in the slow lane today. no walks. I have an appiontment with the DH so, we will park away from the door, but thats about as good as its gonna get today.

Debbie D 02-18-2010 05:08 PM

Ugh...35 min on recumbant bike. An aquaintance came over and talked to me, so I didn't get in the required distance/cal I usually get in 30 min., so I punished myself by going an extra 5... Then did weight machines. Told myself I would do stretches at home, but then forgot...

TXBatman 02-18-2010 05:17 PM

Forgot to post yesterday...did spin class Tiesday night. 60 minute strength class, and I have forgotten what my #s were for the class (that forgetting things line is beginning to sound like a theme isn't it?). Planning to do another spin class tonight...feeling kinda crappy with sinus issues...hope it is just allergies and not a cold coming on...

BBS1951 02-18-2010 07:18 PM

So many members logging in, it's great!

First of all, Doydie, its very nice to see you logging in here. Dont listen to the negativity from your spouse, you CAN do this. Just dont allow yourself any, not any, excuses except fever, nausea, diahrrea or vertigo. JUST DO IT !

Dejibo: I know you are still in flare, just do what your body lets you do.

Debbie: You have such a good attitude; you are doing great with you exercise

TxBatman: What can I say, you set the standard here!

Erin, just haul yourself to the gym, or walk around the house or neighborhood: dont let yourself slide back.

I swam a mile today: 54 degrees outside and 82 in the pool That air was indeed cold.

Erin524 02-18-2010 09:16 PM

There's no walking in this neighborhood. The city used front end loaders last month to get the snow out of the streets, and they dumped 6ft piles of snow boulders on the sidewalks, and where there arent snow boulders, it's an ice rink.

and the city is now saying they're going to go after the people who have the 6ft tall ice mountains on their sidewalks for not clearing them. Our sidewalks were clear for a week before the city came in to do the streets. The city is going to charge the homeowners now...our neighborhood has a lot of disabled people who cant get out to clear the sidewalks.

We're getting yet more snow tomorrow...I think I'll just climb up and down the stairs a few times for exercise.

SallyC 02-18-2010 09:29 PM

Right now, because of this cold. I'm on a downhill slide. Still doing my necessary, have to, stretches, but as little else as I can.

ewizabeth 02-18-2010 11:34 PM

This morning I did 20 minutes of dancing/exercise to cable music. I added some arm stretches, etc... to make it a better workout. Tomorrow we have an early morning meeting for work so I might wait until Sat for the next workout.

sabimax 02-18-2010 11:49 PM

update, the ENT did not have to do those head maneuvers, as he did a bit and no vertigo.. so said he would not need to do the further maneurvers...
he then like so many other side doctors asked the all famous question....

have you been tested for MS... I just giggled.. he wondered why... told him about how many side drs have asked that and the neuros do not seem to think MS at all. He had a long talk with me about mild MS and MRI not proving against it... and what a wonderful man. He wants me to show up there next time I have one of those other spells of dizziness/balance issues/eye blur/ want to sleep attacks I get... instead of sleepign it off.. he wants me to call and have someone bring me there right away, to check me out...cool dr

he also said to make sure my neuro plans a head MRI yearly... to keep looking for changes....wow a doctor that wonders what I do about my sxs....

hugss all, sarah tomorrow I will get back into walking and yoga now that on the mend...

TXBatman 02-19-2010 12:59 PM

Interesting Sarah...could also be Meniere's disease...that is what they tried to dx me with originally because of my hearing loss, but I never had the vertigo that is usually characteristic of it. Glad to see he isn't just throwing his hands up and saying "oh well".

Did a spin class last night...the theme was "victoriously defeated". The instructor is always talking about the difference between "failing" or being unable to continue versus quitting. He always says we should strive to reach the point where cannot go any further instead of deciding to quit before we reach that point. So he told us we should walk out of the class last night feeling "victoriously defeated" and then set about forcing us to feel that way.

I did it...46 minutes, max HR 94% of max, avg HR 80% of max, ~750 calories...and I was victoriously defeated...

BBS1951 02-19-2010 05:29 PM

Sabi, that sounds like a doctor who is actually interested in helping his patients, and listens to the patients story. A keeper.

Erin, that stinks about the snow problem. Move to Florida?

Good job ewiz and good job txbatman

I swam a mile today: 64 outside and 82 pool. This cold weather is getting very old....

sabimax 02-19-2010 06:47 PM

Yes BBS, wish he was a neuro lol

I walked a big walk today pushing the two little ones in double stroller.. we went down to beach area and played in the playground snow and all.. the slides were fast for them so they looked like lugers hehe

then we walked to McDonalds so they could have small fries and choco milk and I could get a water from walking. Stopped by my parents house then home... so long walk.

feeling good today, not many of those days happen so yeahhhhh
back to work tomorrow, hugss,sarah

BBS1951 02-20-2010 12:41 PM

Sabi, that sounds like a really fun time with your kids :)

I swam a mile today. Felt good :)

Dejibo 02-20-2010 12:45 PM

nice sunny day. I walked a slow mile, and came home with burning feet, and Uhthoffs really bad. (where you go half blind when you over heat) I get the rest of the day off. The DH is making a nice dinner.
