I'm moving to BBS's back yard! :)

ewizabeth 02-20-2010 10:18 PM

I did 20 minutes on the elliptical this morning. :)

Erin524 02-20-2010 10:55 PM

I havent gotten much sleep this week, and neither have my parents. My mom's broken shoulder wont let her sleep comfy...which means my dad cant sleep comfy because mom isnt comfy.

Because they're not comfy, they're making noise that wakes me up and I already have bad insomnia problems...plus when I hear them at 3 and 4 in the morning making noise and it sounds like mom isnt comfortable, I end up going upstairs to help. (my mom has been asking me to help get her comfy, because apparently I can understand my mom when the aphasia she has sometimes keeps her from actually saying what she needs. It's not bad aphasia, and doesnt happen much, but enough that my dad doesnt get it sometimes)

I know my dad is desperate to go exercise, and I'd like to go too, but I'm terrified that my mom will fall down again. I think I'm going to kick my dad out tomorrow and make him go exercise and I'll stay here and keep an eye on my mom. If she falls again, I cant pick her up, but I can dial 911 really well.

At least we took her out for a bit today (she begged us to take her somewhere) and my dad and I got to walk around the inside of Costco for about an hour, which was a lot of exercise with the crowds of rude people who see a person being pushed in a wheelchair and decide that they can just push her out of their way so they can get to the free samples faster. I was about ready to use the shopping cart as a battering ram to get by people. It was enough exercise just to walk thru there that everyone had to take a nap when we got home.

Took mom to breakfast too, and I actually got a healthy breakfast (fruit plate with yogurt and granola) I ate the yogurt and granola and some of the fruit, but got my mom to chow down on most of the fruit too. (dad ate some too)

Hopefully I can get my dad to go out and exercise some...and then maybe I can go down and use the treadmill for a bit after he gets back...as long as it doesnt snow tomorrow (supposed to)

Dejibo 02-21-2010 07:53 AM

walked a mile this morning. kicked my heinie. I am going to rest, and get to church. :o

BBS1951 02-21-2010 02:24 PM

Wow Dejibo: you are reclaiming your health :)

I swam a mile today and it was in the 70s outside finally :)

Hi Sally, there is room in the yard for sure :)

Good going ewiz.

TXBatman 02-21-2010 06:09 PM

Rode 38 miles in the hills at 17.3 mph avg on Saturday. Could have done the 54 mile route, but just didn't feel like spending that much time on the bike knowing that I was going to spend the rest of the afternoon driving to my mom's and visiting her.

Dejibo 02-22-2010 07:47 AM

Walked a half mile this morn. I got quite chilly, and when I started to shiver, I decided to head home. :( Maybe I will do some yoga or Wii later.

Debbie D 02-22-2010 05:06 PM

Way to go, Dej!!

Did my usual 30 min on a recumbant bike...legs felt to stiff and achy to do an elliptical. Did 30 min of weight machine work, upped some of the weight today...
then I cleaned my study which DH has been painting for a month now:rolleyes::rolleyes: he finally finished, so I dusted the blinds, doorways and desk, washed the floors and cleaned off the desk and futon and vacuumed. Nice and clean! Took about 1 1/2 hrs.

BBS1951 02-22-2010 08:35 PM

Nice Job Debbie: Clean is nice :)

Good going TxBatman.

Nice going to Dejibo too!

I swam a mile today.

Erin524 02-23-2010 03:17 AM

Ok, I guess I dont need to exercise for a few days. My inner nurse that I didnt know was inside me has been released and taking care of my mom is hard work. (besides the fact that I'm having to do the household stuff that she wouldnt let me do before because I dont do it the "right way")

Now I know why I didnt go into nursing like everyone else in my family did. (grandpa, an aunt, my dad, an uncle, several cousins were all nurses and an x-ray tech and a paramedic who also became a respiratory therapist thrown in for good measure...my mom was even an ambulance attendant in the Army in the 60s)

The gene responsible for making a person want to go into a medical field skipped me...and my sister. Thank goodness. I dont think I could do this kind of work every day. Hopefully my mom will heal soon so I wont be a pretend nurse for much longer than the next 3 months.

I think this also explains why I've not had children too. Taking care of someone is hard work. Good thing my dad is here to throw medicine at her and feed her and hose her down in the shower.

Once her arm is healed, I think my dad and I need to take a couple of vacations.

Dejibo 02-23-2010 01:06 PM

went grocery shopping. that is more than enough exercise for me. I am spent! :(

SallyC 02-23-2010 01:22 PM

Transferred from sofa to scooter to stair lift to WC in basement to furnace, took doors off, changed filter, put doors back on.....then wheeled over to Dryer and removed, folded and stacked all on my lap, transferred from WC to stairlift to scooter, to closet, to hang up all my clean clothes, scooted to potty, back on scooter, to kitchen for drink, to living rm and transferred to sofa.....all without having to call 911. :D

I wish I could have just taken a liesurely swim. in a tepid pool.:)

Debbie D 02-23-2010 02:39 PM

Yawn...30 min on the elliptical machine...20 min of stretching...yawn...

BBS1951 02-23-2010 06:15 PM

Hi everybody: Sally, Debbie and Dejibo--good to see you trying to move around.

I swam a mile today. warm air and warm pool.

ewizabeth 02-23-2010 09:26 PM

I dusted, vacuumed and did laundry today. I also cleaned the kitchen after supper. Now I'm tired! :)

Erin524 02-23-2010 09:51 PM

feel sick today...trying to not do anything other than fluff my mom's pillows for her, give her pain meds and go buy her the occasional Starbuck's. (I might not feel good, but that caramel apple cider helped me a bit) I had an allergy attack to something yesterday...hives and itching and just feeling icky. I think that's why I feel crummy today. Still itchy too.

doydie 02-23-2010 10:38 PM

Hi everyone. Not been active on this thread but maybe it can help me be active! When my DH retired in DEcember I had to get a new insurance so I got a Medicare advantage which has a free Silver Sneakers. So yesterday was my first day in silver splash. I also stayed and did aqua joints. That can kick your butt! Today was just silver splash. I hope I can keep up with doing this 5 days a week. But reading what all you guys do makes tired!

sabimax 02-23-2010 10:57 PM

since that day that felt so good without the meds for the vertigo... each morning waking off balance and a bit dizzy... uggggg

so taking the valium for it, going to call ENT tomorrow.. and ask more questions....

menieres I will read more about, I have not stuffy feeling in ears as he asked, or other sxs of menieres so far.....

but he thought this is more severe vertigo form of my other dizzy spells and at least wants to check me out during one... my neuro is hour away... so glad the ENT wants to do this.

hugss all, bowled today, and took a fall... so I will be bruised, landed on knees but then lost it and landed on arms on the lanes... so owwwww bowling was my exercise tonight... on a league but was off due to vertigo last two weeks... not sure that is what caused the fall or just whatever.. hugsss, sarah

Dejibo 02-24-2010 12:16 PM

shoveling snow, clearing cars, clearing decks, steps, and walkways....takes me ALL day, but I peck away at it. The DH is working big circles around me, but he is happy to let me putter, without being frustrated, and taking my shovel. Im in for a nice warm lunch.

BBS1951 02-24-2010 08:50 PM

Nice going Dejibo :)

Sabi, with all going on with you its wonderful that you bowled :)

Doydie, good to see you. What is Silver Splash?

I swam a mile in the rain today. Its going down into the thirties tonight, so i worry It will be too cold to swim in the morning.

I'm not really sure what Silver splash is! silver sneakers I believe is a national excercise program for seniors. It is offered free with I would assume most or all Medicare advantage programs. So why not take advantage of it! The Y has Silver splash which incorparates aerobocs and fitness in the water. They also have aqua joints which does most of the same things as silver splash but you keep your feet on the floor of the pool all the time. No bouncing, hopping, marching, etc.

Debbie D 02-25-2010 03:46 PM

Did 24 min. on the elliptical...I got a bit overheated and started to break out in hives again, so I stopped.
Then did 24 min. on weight machines...felt so excellent afterwards!!

My neuro told me on Tuesday to get in the pool (not to get into it on Tuesday, but he told me on Tuesday)...anyway, I told him I get a fibro attack when I swim at the health club because they keep the water at around 72 degrees:eek: He couldn't believe they keep it that cold, but they post it on the wall. The therapy pool is 96-no thank you...I'll try it when I get back from Hawaii...I'll definitely swim there, though.

BBS1951 02-25-2010 05:59 PM

Debbie, 72??? Are they out of their fricking mind? I wear a wetsuit in the winter and will not get in the water below 77, with the wetsuit. I prefer 80 to 84. WHo do they get to get into such a freezing pool? They are nuts. Have fun in Hawaii.

Hi to Doydie: Thanks for the info.

I swam a mile today: 50 air temp, 81 pool temp.

Dejibo 02-26-2010 09:03 AM

Walked a mile today. Through the slush, ice, and snow. its only snowing lightly here right now, so I took advantage and got out in it. I also did my mile yesterday in the rain. I was soaked to the bone by the time I got home.

Debbie D 02-26-2010 09:10 AM

Dej,
That avatar photo is a CAT? I thought it was a chicken...:p
Good job of pushing yourself...but stay dry...you don't want to get the sniffles...:p

Yeah, 72. They have a group that swims daily that is competitive, and I think they like it cool in the water. I know one girl who wears a wet suit in that pool for the MS water class...she can't take the cold water, either.

BBS1951 02-26-2010 03:01 PM

Debbie, I am something of an expert on pools, and 72 is too cold for competitive swimming. The muscles work best when the pool is between 78 and 82. I think I'd ask more about that. I bet you can find a quote on the internet.

Dejibo: I agree, amazing job of pushing yourself.

I swam a mile today: Air temp 61, pool temp 80

Debbie D 02-26-2010 05:55 PM

BBS, I'll check it out...I know that if I get in that adult pool, I'm headed for a major fibro attack...I usually swim in the youth pool...it's a bit warmer and still the 25 yd length, just shallower, which is fine by me, since I'm afraid of water over my head:rolleyes:

I cleaned the house with a lick and a promise, as Mom used to say...took about 1 1/2 hrs. I'm pooped...

pud's friend 02-27-2010 10:43 PM

Flew 20,000miles since I last spoke. Phew, wore me out.

Now I have two horses a day to ride :o
I'm a lucky young lady to have such wonderful animals who want to listen and do as I ask (in my dreams). They make me very happy.

Will be jumping in the pool in a bit. Outside temp 82, water temp 90 :D

Dejibo 02-28-2010 08:56 AM

taking a loooong car ride today. Seeing family, friends, doing taxes, and shopping while I am close to a mall to get some done. That will be enough exercise for me.

plus I have been doing the happy dance that Puds friend is back! wheeee!

BBS1951 02-28-2010 05:32 PM

Welcome back pud: Where did you go? Lucky you for warm air :)

Dejibo: good to see you trying despite how ill you have been.

Hi Debby, I think I'd be in the youth pool too.

I swama mile today. \

Watch for the March thread later
