That's such a shame, Sally!
I hope you can get a nonslip surface of some kind for your floor. There are ways of treating surfaces to make them nonskid. I've seen a couple of examples but don't know much more about them. Yes, the 911 people would have broken in. For years I lived right across the hall from a guy with severe MS who was often falling out of his wheelchair, and the 911 people broke his door open so often that the management had to get him a new door. In case anyone is worried about getting "that bad," I should add that he had quite a drinking problem, and many of the falls were caused by it.
