Over the Christmas holiday, my hubby and I visit his parents in Florida who are in their mid-nineties. During that time we managed to get away to the Florida Keys for a little luxury and pampering for three days.
On our second day, my hubby headed off to the gym at the resort, and I had my eye on the Jacuzzi tub in our bathroom suite. I immersed myself in bubbles, and the essence of aromatherapy oils. I was in seventh heaven! Eventually my fingers started to wrinkle, and it was time to get out of the tub. But . . . I couldn’t do it! I could not manage to get out of the tub! My arms are too weak to lift myself up enough to get my legs underneath me, and the tub was too short and narrow for me to turn over on to my hands and knees. I was stuck there for almost three hours! Eventually, I let the water out of the tub, and I rinsed myself and the tub well enough to get rid of all the suds and oils. Then I had to sit there for an hour (Florida humidity, ya know) waiting for myself and the tub to dry. Only then did I have enough traction to wriggle my way onto my hands and knees, so I was able to get up. My arms and knees were decorated with nasty black-and-blue marks from the experience. I have never felt so vulnerable in my entire life. What if I had been alone? I would have had to wait for the housekeeping staff to find me the next day. I’d have to deal with the indignity of being extracted, naked, from the tub by goodness-only-knows how many burley men (I’m kinda heavy). As for my hubby, he had gotten deeply involved in a round of volleyball games, and was shocked when he got back to the room to find me in tears over my experience. I hate this disease! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Ah Marion,
I really hate being vulnerable and aware of what I do all the time in order to avoid problems. My heart goes out to you. I've gotten rid of 2 area rugs I really liked because the power chair gets hung up in them.

Marion, I understand! We bought our house 6 years ago. First thing I did after all day moving boxes... soak in the spa tub...jets on high! When I was ready to get out... I couldn't! The heat from the water had taken its toll. Luckily I could yell loud enough for my DH to come help. Now I have a small plastic stool that I sit on in the tub if I need to just soak my legs. We've actually considered removing the tub and turning that area into a sitting/dressing area.

No traction, no strength, no co-ordination and no help, leads to sitting in tub. or in my case, on the floor, waiting for those burly guys.

![]() What an awful experience to endure on an otherwise wonderful get-away. I hope your bruises heal quickly. ((((hugs))))

Im glad you were able to think clearly enough to let out the water, and rest till you cooled off. I always take a cordless phone in the bath room with me, and put it on the side of the tub. easy to reach. You know as soon as you get a nice soak going on, the phone rings!
Im glad you are safe and dry. ![]()

i'm sorry about your experience.
it might also have been the heated water. being too hot for too long can cause the nerve signals along the nerve pathways to decrease. i've had that happen to me too. try to chalk it up to an MS experience to learn from. not that you could have known anything like that would happen. i'm sorry such a nice part of your day had to turn scary. but, you thought on your "feet" and did well. i don't dare get into the tub cause i know i couldn't get out.

How terrible. To have such a wonderful experience turn out so bad. Could make for a good plot for CSI Miami though.
