I used a wobble board in PT. I made one, then bought one. My grandkids could do it with no problem.

Me, ha ha! It would make me a fortune on America's Funniest Home Video's when I'm on it. Looks like I'm trying to fly.

But I kept it up. I held on to the kitchen counter and put it on the small carpet below the sink. I tried to stand on it often. Did better and better over time. Then after my nightly shower, while I still have warm muscles, I do leg exercises, some holding on, some not.

Today my right leg was doing a funny gait thing. I think the stress of my biopsy and Thyroid issues, plus the choking on foods has put me on high alert for a flare. I will fight not to have that happen.

I never used a big rubber ball in PT, and I went to better my gait imbalance.

What did you do with the ball? Sit on it, or roll it?

Lady, there are different ways to use the large rubber balls. When I was in PT I sat on it and at the same time used resistance bands. My husband used the rubber balls in PT and he did floor exercises as well as sat on it.

These balls can help with core strength and balance.

I have been in businesses where the rubber balls have been turned into chairs for employees to use at their desks.

Starting pt on Wednesday for gait and balance issues. I also have a wider stance than normal. Pt pointed it out during my evaluation. He says that I am at a low risk for falling at this point, but my insurance wants me to to pt prior to prescribing ampyra. I will be looking for the rubber balls.

After I was dx, I had an aquaintance tell me she should have recognized that I had ms because of my gait. That was the first I knew I had been walking funny. I guess we just automatically compensate even with out realizing. Now, I realize over time as sx have worsened that my gait has gotten much worse.
Hugs to all of you!

There seem to be quite a few types of MS gait. I've heard of broad-based gait, scissors gait, and ataxic gait, for instance.

At my most recent neuro visit, a comment was made about my scissors gait. I wasn't aware it was happening at the time.

Sometimes my legs seem out of my control. Other times I look down and find them kicking out sideways from the knees when I thought I was just walking normally.
