Default Is this a symptom of MS or side effect?

I have been feeling nauseous for weeks. It hadnt been constant until a few days ago. I'm also so tired that I can barely do anything.

I finally got a call back from my neuro today. Told him that I'm feeling very weak, especially on the right side, and that I have been nauseous constantly for a few weeks. He didnt seem especially concerned.

I have an appointment with him on wednesday. He said he'll do a neuro exam (about freaking time, I've seen him three times since April and not once has he done a neuro exam on me...and I've been in this flare since late april or early may)

I just feel absolutely horrible. My dad (a nurse anesthetist) and my aunt (a nurse practitioner) both think that part of the nausea is from the baclofen I've been taking, and part of it might be from the insomnia I've had.

I think it's coming from the feeling like crap with half my body being numb.

I have spasticity right now, but it hasnt been the horribly painful stuff that I had back in May, but it's been just as uncomfortable. Tonight I pulled out the TENS unit that I stole...errr...borrowed from my mother and that's giving me a bit of relief.

I just want this flare to go away. I'm tired of feeling constantly sick and numb and tired. It's hard to get any rest when it's also causing me insomnia. I feel so bad that I dont even want to play with my new Kindle, or crochet or knit.

I think I'll go get some extra batteries for the TENS unit from upstairs. Then TENS unit kind of hurts, but it feels better than being numb. Guess that's the masochist in me talking.

Erin, do you get /headaches or migraines? They cause Nausea too. Baclofen can too. Can you reduce the amount you take? Talk to your Neuro. Maybe Zanaflex or another might help you. Feel better my dear.

I'm going to see the neuro tomorrow. Probably talk to him about it then.

I'm not on a huge dose. I only take 2 1/2 baclofens (10mg apiece) when I go to bed, and occasionally take an extra one during the day. The extra that I've been taking lately has been the extra one during the day, but I havent been doing that too much. Just when the spasticity gets really annoying.

Yes I get migraines, but it's been awhile since I've had one. They do that sometimes. The migraines will stop for a few months.

I just dont understand why sometimes I feel so sick. I've been tired all the time, even after 12hrs of sleep, that I've been assuming is the infamous MS fatigue. I just dont know if nausea is an MS symptom, or if it's a side effect from something else, like the baclofen, or just from being tired as hell.

My aunt told me that sometimes taking an alcohol wipe and smelling the alcohol on the wipe will help the nausea...tried it last night. It sort of works, at least for about 20 minutes.

It's weird, I can be nauseous and not hungry, but if I try to eat a little something, it will occasionally get better and I can eat something. Strangely enough, I've only been hungry for things like gyros when I feel sick like this...or for fruit and yogurt and granola.

I dont know why I get a weird craving for gyros when I feel like crap. (no, I'm not pregnant) My dad thinks that I want the salt that's in the gyro meat, or I'm wanting the potassium in bananas for the other craving.

I'm starting to wonder if it's not the MS, but that maybe I'm developing some other crap like diabetes. I'm going to talk with the neuro about that tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure he'll want me to go get checked for diabetes (again...did it last year and earlier this summer too)

I had IV and oral steroids earlier this year. Hopefully those didnt push me over the edge into the jaws of diabetes. I'm having enough problems holding the MS back with a chair and a whip.

I don't know anything about the side effects of baclofen. I'm guessing that a side effect of that med is a possibilty, esp since you have a couple of health professionals telling you that. You could check with a pharmacist for more info about that.

However, I also believe that anything different or unusual could be a symptom of MS. Since everything is controlled by our brain, and MS is a neurological disease, although some symptoms tend to be more typical than others, anything that goes wrong with our body or mind could be a symptom, I would think. And, pain with MS is not all that unusual. I would also talk to your neurologist about it.
