Hey there everyone! I am on my 5th day out of 16day Prednisone treatment. The prednisone has really helped with the tightness/uncomfortableness in my back. So hopefully once I finish the steroids I won't have to be put on the anti-spasmatic.
I have had soooooooo much energy from the Prednisone and I am trying to slow myself down but I just can't! I was able to do grocery shopping yesterday, clean my car, the house, do laundry, dishes, cleaned the bathroom etc. without having to take a nap or multiple breaks in between each chore, bad thing is I think I am using far too much energy. I know I should probably be taking it easy for the next two weeks as my body is in 'damage mode' as I refer to it, but when I feel some energy in me that I haven't had since the last time I was on steroids I just can't stop. I have been able to accomplish so many things in this week, things that get put off everyday due to symptoms or fatigue. So again, since I am so new to this, I am sure I am not the only MS patient that has been in this predicament before.. So what is it that you do to get yourself to slow down while your on the steroids? I love this amount of energy but I am really afraid that I might have done more damage this week by doing so much. Thanks for your input! Be well! ![]() -Ana D |

Hi Ana,
When I am on steroids I want to clean the whole neighborhood. ![]() ![]() But..it is a false sense of energy. You will overdo it. Take it slow and easy, let yourself heal. Steroids will take down any inflammation, so don't fight it with overuse of your body. Drink and eat properly, watch your salt intake and eat high potassium foods. Most people retain salt on steroids, so they need a little more potassium to keep the balance of fluids in their body. I am glad you are feeling better, just take it a bit slower, okay? ![]()

Thanks so much! I greatly appreciate it! I will definitely be sure to do so with the PT, my boyfriend's mom actually just bought me the 'three minute legs' stool thing? lol she said a multiple sclerosis patient wrote in and said that it's great to build muscle tone back up and is low impact so I will make sure to start that (but not over do it!) tomorrow

Thank you LADY and dejibo
I didn't even think about the salt/potassium thing! I will definitely make sure to do this diet to avoid the puffiness in the face and belly! I am sorry to hear they make you tired dejibo! I think I may have over done it this week as I have felt ever so sleepy today. Taking it easy for the rest of the weekend ![]() Thanks again for your responses! -Ana D |

When I'm on steroids, Ayna, I often request a Rx for sleeping pills, as it's not unusual for me to sleep only 20 minutes at night, without them.
Sometimes, I can sleep OK, so I try without, and only take one if I need it. Won't help with the overdrive energy during the day, probably, but, our bodies need sleep to recover well from the flare. ~ Faith

That's great Ana. I haven't done orals only IVSM for 3 days and yep - I did grocery shopping, cleaned house, pool, everything! I said hey if I'm awake an hr early why lay in bed! I didn't know about watching K levels so thanks for that Lady. I always try to go easy on salt intake but thanks for that too! I also do triceps & hand gripper as I watch TV in bed to fall asleep & the IVSM had me doing reps o plenty
![]() Ana how much are you taking that's working for you? |

Even when I can't sleep while on steroids, I don't ever seem to get that extra burst of energy that many people talk about.
I'm often just exhausted and lethargic from lack of sleep. And, lay around a lot. ~ Faith

Thank you for your responses Eddie and Faith!
Right now they have me on a 16 day Prednisone treatment that was working at first, but I think I messed up big time... I was feeling great the first few days, but since I have done so much this past week I think I've done more damage to my body than helping recover from my flare. My electrical shocks started on the right side of my brain last night and that started last week and went away. But it's back now and I am again in an extreme amount of pain. I have, however, cut myself off. No more chores for this week. I am staying in bed and hope that the rest of this prednisone will fix the flare. I am just really hoping that I did not over do it and have to have IV steroids. I have only had MS for a little over a year now and have already done multiple Prednisone pill therapies and 1 3day IV and 1 5day IV. So I am really praying I don't have to go that route because I hear the IV only works a few times... uhh MS is such a hemorrhoid in my opinion. . . . Thanks again everyone! Be well! -Ana D ![]() |
