Blush The Accidental Lab Rat

TITLE: When a painful error leads to positive and unexected results

BACKGROUND:
I was doing the prep-work for a dinner tonight (which I will not attend, for reasons discussed below). The prep-work included the cleaning, seeding and dicing of two jalepeno chilis. Upon completion, I washed my hands thoroughly.

METHODOLOGY:
I had to use the restroom, which requires my use of a catheter,..., and you can imagine what happened (and how my urethral nerves are reacting right now). The Silver-Lining in this story is that with a little research, it became clear that there have been peer-reviewd medical studies on this very issue as it relates to people who suffer from neurogenic bladder (urinary control issues). And the data from these studies indicate a significant reduction in the need to urinate (times per day) and an increase in bladder retention.

RESULTS:
Urologists have concluded that Capsaicin (the chemical in chilis that makes them hot) can have a positive impact on urological incontinance.

DISCUSSION:
Hard to believe,..., but it is true.
Ouch, now I will just wait for the impact to fade.

LOL

LITERATURE REVIEWED:
Just Google these words to read the studies: capsaicin urethra catheter

-Vic

I'm sorry for your pain...but that was so funny! You do have a way with words, if not with jalapenos.

Jeez Vic...thanks for the info...sorry to be giggling here!
I wonder if you and my man are on the same schedule or something...He was cleaning out pith and seeds on jalapenos yesterday too. He used to cook in a Mexican restaurant and used to be able to eat whole peppers with no problems at all.

Well he found out it's not like that anymore.
He ate a small piece of the pith and a few seeds. It was almost an hour before he could speak, his eyes were still running, there was butter smeared all over his face, milk spilled on the counter and the floor, broken pieces of bread all over the place and he was looking askance at the jalapenos he still had to stuff with cream cheese and wrap in bacon.

I was absolutely no help at all, because just like I am now, I was doubled over howling with laughter!

Hope all is well now! Get some rubber gloves.

Vic,
I can not laugh. One of my most painful memories is preparing a chicken enchilada-like casserole using jalepeno peppers my uncle grew. I scraped the pits out with my hands. The casserole was delicious but way too hot (spicy) to eat, I slept with a baggie of ice between my hands. This happened over 20 years ago, the memory is still fresh. I did not touch my eyes and am glad nothing else. OUCH!!!!

I did this and didn't wash my hands fast enough. I can only imagine your pain "down there." I did giggle for a second and then remembered the fire my hands felt they were in.

Maybe your on to something...or on fire. lmao

Oh my, Victor. I've never handled jalipenos and after your scarey sad, but hilarious experience, I'm very glad..

The last time I burned myself was the inside of my nose, when I opened a simmering pot of sour kraut and took a deep sniff..

Waring gloves next time is a good idea, if there ever is a next time.

... also, don't rub your eyes afterward.

Late summer jalapenos are like fire. We had mexican food tonight and with the late summer jalapenos it's too hot for us to eat much salsa. We can normally finish two containers between the two of us.
