Hi! I am 26 years old, in fairly good health. I workout every day and I just had my first baby 2 months ago...
Last Sunday while at dinne in a restaurant, my left hand starting getting the pins and needles sensations then it went over to my right hand. It lasted until Monday acting numb internittenly . Then on Tuesday the right side of my face was numb along my jaw line as my face was going bimbo thought I was going to pass out like I was having a panic attack. My right side of my face has been numb for a few days now. And today my right arm and legs feel different, they feel somewhat weak but I am able to left things still and I workouted normally this morning. I am deathly afraid of doctors and I think I am having a stroke and fear the worse. Please help |

Welcome to the forum. I have to remind you we are not doctors, but simply folks who have come together to provide a place to discuss our diseases.
Make an appointment to see your doctor. Your symptoms could be the result of a multitude of reasons, so the best thing you can do is begin the diagnostic progress as soon as possible. Hope you find out what caused your symptoms soon.

if you really think you're having a stroke, get to a doctor now.

Welcome Newmom to Neurotalk, nice to meet you.
![]() Did you have any of these or similar symptoms before your pregnancy? You have come to the MS forum, so I assume you are suspecting MS and during pregnancy, usually, due to protective hormones, MS symptoms are silenced. After Birth and nursing, MS sx will re-appear, even more pronounced, sometimes. Have you seen your Doc? He/She will most likely refer you to a Neorologist, who will begin testing you for possible MS or what ever else it may be. Stay with us and let us know what your Doc says. ![]() Take a deep breath and stay calm. Stressing out will only exacerbate your symptoms and diagnosis can sometimes be lengthy. ![]()

I'm sorry you're scared but please please please go to a doctor immediately. you really need to go to an emergency room stat! think about your baby and how you want to be there for her, its possibly something that could be fixed easily if you get treatment quickly. if it were me, i would also take an aspirin right away.

Hi and welcome to NeuroTalk!
![]() I agree with the others who said to make an appointment with your doctor. You need to have these symptoms checked out...and followed up on. MS is a tricky disease to diagnose because so many different conditions mimmick its symptoms. So many things could be causing your symptoms. It's usually an elimination game to get to the MS diagnosis. And it takes quite a while. You want to be healthy for that new little baby so try to take care of it now...don't wait for things to get worse. Please let us know what your doctor says. ![]()

Hi New Mom and welcome to NeuroTalk! As the others have said, I agree that you should see a doctor or go to the ER! Your symptoms could be caused by many things, so it will be to your advantage to get a diagnosis as quickly as possible.
Try to calm down, I know, easier said than done, but an anxiety attack will only make things worse. By the way, my first child, Lori, was born when I was 26 also. She's 40 now.....YIKES!!!! Take care and let us know how you make out! ![]()

Welcome!
I have to agree with the others, if you think you are having a stroke or heart attack GO to the ER now! That being said many many many things can cause the symptoms (sx) that you describe. from anxiety (which is really common in the new mommy brain) to fatigue to MS to Lupus, lyme, and so forth. The thing that stuck out in my mind was that your symptoms were on BOTH sides. most folks with MS have one sided symptoms. We complain that our left leg goes and stays numb. or our right jaw goes and stays numb. then after some rest or time it just goes away. Please know that there are more than 100 diseases than can mimic MS. Only your MD can help you rule them out. He will take into account your age, symptoms and results to determine what is happening to your body. Blood tests can rule out easy things like a vitamin def, or lyme, lupus, or an electrolyte imbalance from dehydration (which is common in nursing moms who dont drink enough) the majority of stuff is ruled out thru simple exam and blood work. If all that stuff has been fixed, or ruled out and you still have symptoms your MD will ask you to take an MRI to view your brain. If your MD is dismissive or rude or treats you like you are just whining, seek a new md! Welcome to the club house, and congrats on the wee one!

I think a good number of us were treated as if we were nuts or lying when we first started to notice the weirdness that MS does sometimes.
My right hip went numb in April of 2006. I was treated like I was a moron by a PA at my doctor's office when I complained about the numbness and pain in the area that was numb. That was the first sign I had that something was wrong, but was pretty much blown off by doctors when I said something about it. When I got optic neuritis in August of that year, I was pretty much ignored by an ER doc, my regular doctor looked at my eye and said he couldnt see anything wrong, but he at least trusted me enough to send me to an ophthalmologist. The ophthalmologist had a machine that he had me look into, and I clicked a button every time I saw a flash of light. (I call it the "Boring Clicky Video Game") that mapped out the giant blind spot in my eye. Thank goodness he had a machine that could basically prove that I wasnt giving them a bunch of BS in a bid for attention. I love my eye doctor for that (and love that regular doctor for sending me that...too bad that doctor moved...but I still have a regular doctor that takes me seriously) That eye doctor was able to gather proof (couple of other tests he did, plus an MRI) that got me sent to a neurologist. I still needed to wait around for my body to give me the second flare that got me another MRI and finally a diagnosis a few months later. But at least the eye doctor took me serious and didnt give me a bunch of crap about it being "migraine related". He was the first doctor to tell me that I probably had MS, and when all the other doctors said I didnt, he still told me that's what he thought I had. At least he told me the truth about what he thought. I dont know what it is about doctors that they dont believe us when we first develop symptoms of MS. Maybe it's the drug addicts making doctors suspicious of everyone? I dont know.
