Please list your experiences/results of mouth washes, home remedies or prescriptions.
My mouth is SO dry not a trace of saliva when I wake throughout the night, starting to effect tooth & gum health. I drink approx 3 L water/24hrs. Caused by meds. Yes I eat low as reasonable meals. Thanks in advance. EddieF |

My mouth gets so dry (Vesicare and Oxybutin and others meds) make me like a desert. I chew Mist gum if I know I'll be talking, At party, ate a dry dough
boat-shaped thing with stuff. So dry I could not talk, felt like mouth filled with sawdust. Hear Biotiene mouthwash helps some. My PCP recommends hard lemon candies.

My bottom gums are receeding due to dry mouth. The dryness is significantly worse at night. I'm a mouth breather, plus one of my medications causes dry mouth.
The best solution I've found is taping my mouth shut. Not joking. If you have good airflow through your nose, I suggest trying it. I bought that cloth type medical tape and cut a small piece, and taped just below my nose from top lip to bottom. It did help me significantly with the dry mouth, but I got out of the habit of doing it and really need to get back on it.

Zanaflex dries my mouth out terribly. The hygenist recommended that Biotene mouthwash, but it reminds me of the garbage you have to drink when you're preparing for a colonoscopy, and I gag on it...
Gum chewing seems to re-salivate my mouth. I use a CPAP machine at night, so my mouth is forced shut, thank God...

I like the lemon drop candies, idea. I like your Doc, kicker.
By the time I found out a med was causing my dry mouth, a few years ago, it was too late to save my, usually healthy, teeth. Had to have all my uppers pulled.

Gosh, I didn't even think about it that I have had dry mouth during the period I've been trying a new drug, Intron-A, for Polycythemia Vera. But yes, my mouth is so dry that it's hanging open all night, and that is not usual for me. And I have lost a lot of my teeth already, so that's not good prognosis. I do use Biotene several times a day and I know it's the best mouthwash for me. However, it isn't doing much for my nighttime dry mouth. During the day it is mostly normal. I'm drinking lots of water.

I bought Biotene but does nothing for sleeping. I left some in a cup by bed and sipped/spit it middle of night when I woke and might've helped a little but not like Im looking for. I think the Acthar Gel is what put me over the dry mouth edge.
The tape idea mentioned wont work for me- nose is always stuffy which compounds the problem. Bought 20' of tubing for my new oxygen concentrator so that should help nose/keep mouth closed somewhat. I needed hose because it's a touch noisy so havent used it while sleeping. Will tonight hoepfully. Ive been using it as I crank my hand cycle. Works. You exercise till muscles cant go anymore. Breathing's not an issue. |

Biotene makes a gel that works pretty good for me. I keep it by my bed and squeeze a drop or two on the back of my hand then put it in my mouth and swish it around making sure it coats all my teeth.
I've seen something new at the drug store, but I haven't tried it. It's some kind of disc that naturally sticks to the roof of your mouth while you sleep. The problem is, I'm so sensitive to ingredients, that I'm kind of scared to anything new right now. |
