Cipro and the family of fluoroquinolones, cause nerve damage in many people.

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread122889.html

The damage can be peripheral or central or both. The damage may be accelerated by using steroids or NSAIDs with it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ciprofloxacin

Read the adverse effects on that Wiki entry carefully. Some of them could be interpreted as "MS type" and a person manifesting them could erroneously attribute it to MS and not the drug. (which is probably happening right now as I type this somewhere in the country!).

Cipro should be used with caution and only when other agents are not available. It is thought that the nerve damage may be permanent and untreatable at this time. A tendon rupture may occur up to a year after discontinuing the drug!

I didnt start the cipro. I gave the diflucan I took the rest of the evening to work that day. What I had after finishing off the macrobid for the UTI was a yeast infection, because I'm feeling better now, and no more UTI symptoms. (finally!)

I dont know how long I had that UTI before I got to the doctor last week. I'd been feeling sick since at least december. I never realized I had a UTI till after it had been diagnosed and I had the first antibiotic. For some reason that's when I started feeling the UTI symptoms. I was having them check because I was going nuts trying to figure out what was causing me to have the new MS symptoms and why I felt sick.

I have a friend with MS who had a uti that went un dx'ed and untreated for 3 months. Her body was so entrenched with infection she had a grand mal seizure and was put on IV antibiotics and in the hospital for a very long time. A 5 day course of oral antibiotic is likely a good sign that you did not suffer untreated for too long

Thanks, this tells me you can go for awhile without realizing you have a UTI. Explains why I felt like crap for so long.

I feel better today, except for the whole wobbly walking thing and all the numbness that came with that. Kind of hoping that the PT that I'm going to go do in an hour will help with the walking problems eventually. Good thing I like the exercises they gave me to do. (couple of them feel really good, so I did them extra this weekend)

What kjind of exercises did they suggest you do? My balance is terrible and I walk like I'm drunk all the time but I've never done exercises to help that.

Default ms hope for a good day

my heart goes out to you Erin. I felt it when you said you wished it would go back to where ever it came from. Me too. I hate what my life turned out to be and I have a hard time like you dealing with it all at times. My cousin dianne has ms. Her Aunt has ms. I went on a vacation with both of them. They had a caretaker that I became friends with. We went on one of those really good trips to Puerto Rico and I learned about ms. I was very grateful to have the time with them too. I hope that there are a few people near to you that can give you the extra hug. none of these horrible conditions people get is fair thats fore sure, and it make you question your own faith at times, no matter what the faith is. Half the time I think I'm going nuts because there are so many troubles in my life. I am in good company on this thread and other people go through even more. I try to think about that when my own stuff overwhelms me. Thats what I am doing one day at a time. I try not to panic, and fail some of the time. I want to go back to my working adult life too instead of dealing with the paperwork, the agiencies, the doctors, tests, surgeries, pain, and all the other things you have to do when these conditions happen. I bet most of the people here maybe feel the same way. My heart goes out to you on this valentines day. One hurt heart to another, wishing you that this day will bring just a bit of peace in your life. Be good to yourself, I hope you have a friend near that you can enjoy this day with and have a movie or a treat of some kind. ginnie

I think I either just did too much today, or that stupid UTI or it's evil cousin the yeast infection is still hanging around.

Suddenly feeling like I have to go bathroom all the time. But, I dont know if that's because girl "stuff" began today or if the UTI or the YI is still hanging around.

Or if it's because my left hip and leg are screaming in pain from being stuffed into the back of my dad's RAV4 (Toyota) for the last time. (he just left to go pick up the new/used car)

I really wanted to go get the new car with them, but I couldnt take getting stuffed into the back of that car one last time. Driving home to get the checkbook was just a little too much for me. (should have stayed at the dealers)

I got home and suddenly I'm feeling like I've still got something going on with the infection. Maybe I should have taken the Cipro, but I was pretty sure that after all that macrobid, that it was a yeast infection bugging me now.

I should have gone with them to get the car. darnit. It would have been fun to ride home in a car that has leg room! (we got a minivan)

Oh well. Guess I'll sit here and decide if there's something going on with any leftover infection.

I reacted very badly to Ciprofloxin. Perhaps you could ask if there is something else good for UTI's. I think Levaquin is a cousin of Cipro, not sure, but it removed ALL my color vision. The vision came back when I quit the Levaquin. Also, I could not walk around corners while on Levaquin.
