Default They are just kids!

is anyone else bugged by kids? I raised 2 and I KNOW kids squeal and scream and love to talk loud when outside, and make a mess...I KNOW this! it doesnt seem to help me when we take my peaceful quiet winter neighbor hood and dump a bunch of kids into it. Several new families have moved in on the other block, and they have been using the right of way behind my house to get to THIS street to play! The road is level, well paved, fancy houses, dirt off the side of the road and a few old left over buildings to climb thru since the old campground that used to be here shut down. so, several have set up the old dining hall as their club house, others are using the old pump house.

To get here they are using bikes, trikes, scooters, skateboards, and are SCREAMING at each other. Sometimes its screaming like "HEY JIMMY! WE ARE OVER HERE! GO TO THE END OF THE DIRT ROAD (my back yard) AND GO RIGHT! THEN LISTEN FOR THE SOUNDS OF OUR VOICES!" Other times its "IM TELLING MOM WAAAAAHHH!!!! YOU WAIT TILL I GET HOME DADDY IS GONNA BUST YOUR BUTT (insert bad word). Then you hear screaming all the way back to her home.

Next we have the drunken campground folks. We have some teenager from the campground that have decided that this street is AWESOME! level, straight, and clean. Dead end cul-de-sac means a great turn around! SWEET! So, they are using it as a rampway for bikes, boards, skates, and so on.

Im not even bringing up the druken adults that wander thru here arguing with each other about what a horrible trip its been this year, and each Fing year you manage to screw it up! LOUDLY! drunks have no volume control. The camp ground is about 3 miles thru the woods. Sometimes they steal one of the golf carts that are not allowed off the dirt path and run up and down the nice paved road with it.

The children next door 3 are hers 3 are his and she has 2 that come on weekends and he has 2 that come on weekends along with the cousins are making me want to pluck my ears off! That little girl SQUEEEEALL! OMG its ear peircing! She screams for happy things, sad things, scary things, silly things, just squeals from 7am till 11pm.

They are just kids. I know what its like to get out and have fun, and be happy and playful but OMG I am ready to get outside with a fire house and start knocking um down like bowling pins. I want to keep my windows open on my peaceful beautiful street. its wonderful on this street. its so pretty and I cant enjoy it. Between the dog walkers that let their dogs OFF leash and pooping everywhere, and the mcdonalds bags. (its 30 minutes away! you wait till NOW to dump your garbage?) and the loud talking walkers at 5am and waking up to see the late talking campground folks have stolen rose bushes while I slept. I NEED OUT OF THIS PLACE! HOw can a place so peaceful, calm and serene be so LOUD!

I am hyper sensitive to noise, and sights lately and I swear I think I am getting a tic. Im as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rockers. I gotta get out of here! I dont want to baby sit your children when you throw them out for the day. I dont want to pick up after your dog or your teenager. I dont care if you and hubby had a fight. SHUT UP! I just want to stick my head out the window and keep screaming SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP! GO HOME AND DO THIS STUFF. LEAVE US IN PEACE!

Maybe you should try this. I mean, what's the worst that can happen? They get the message and tone it down a notch? Can you call the police? File a disturbance report? I hate to suggest this but maybe it's time to start looking for a new place.

Put up some signs about large animals/trespassing/quiet zone, and if the parents don't get a clue report to authorities about noise complaints/trespassing (if they're on your property etc).

My response regarding the kid part of your post is read your title -- "They are just kids." I actually like seeing neighbor kids playing outside -- riding their bikes and scooters and playing games. The sounds of summer generally make me happy. I love the sounds of music playing and people and kids at a swimming pool. It actually makes me sleepy. It reminds me of childhood.

Occasionally when I want to take a nap it is a tad bit annoying but I remind myself they are just kids. I actually bought the girls next door a few boxes of sidewalk chalk last week, and they and a few other kids covered my driveway with their drawings and made me a thank you card out of pressed flowers. The boys on the street can get a little noisy when playing basketball but I just move to another room so I do not have to hear the thunk of the ball.

As far as the drunken campers and teens, I would call the police if it is too much.

It seems to me that if you live close to a recreation area you going to have to expect a certain amount of noise, music, traffic, etc.

I'm noise sensitive too. I cant stand children, whether they're the squealing screeching 5yr olds, or the trash talking teenagers. They're loud and hearing any screaming from the little kids, or the loud talking that teenagers do is like having someone dragging fingernails down a chalkboard.

What bugs me is that people think I'm being a <bad word> because I cant stand the noise and get visibly irritated. I'm not a <bad word>, I'm just going freaking insane from all the noise!

Barb has some good points. For me, it rude adults and teenagers that annoy me more than anything. I'd rather hear little kids playing and having fun and being kids than put up with adults and grown teenagers who are just plain rude.

Noise does bother me more now than it ever used to. Some forms of noise bother me more than others. If it's kids playing and just having fun I can tolerate that. If it's just people being obnoxious and loud for no reason it annoys me. You might want to get some proof (pictures, recordings, etc.) so that you have some backup for your police report.

MS nerves are fragile! And it has something to do with drugs we take. Drugs
make other people that way too. My nephew cannot enjoy his retirement in his
beautiful home in Laurelhurst (lake view) because of the
kids that play "hoops" outside in the street. I know it's because of the awful
drugs he takes to control his chronic atrial fibrillation. Warfarin, for one, a
poison which thins blood. Several other drugs I don't know much about. He
is an active cultured gentleman, with whom I boarded four months last year.
He took a nap every afternoon, and it was often ruined by noise. I didn't care
about the noise, probably because the drugs I take don't completely fry my nerves--
only a little singed around the edges.

I'm not on any medications (other than ibuprofen or tylenol) but I'm pretty sure it's the MS that makes me so sensitive to noise.

My mom hums constantly, and it's out of tune and I compare it to the tuneless humming of the insane. (if you knew my mom...you'd understand) and the constant humming drives me up a wall, across the ceiling and down the other wall. I try to not get irritated by it, but after awhile it's too much and I have to leave the room or ask my mom to stop humming. (it's compulsive, so she usually only stops for a couple of minutes, only to start up again)

This is probably why I spend a lot of my time in my bedroom and not upstairs with my parents. (plus, they have both their tv's volumes set at <breaking the sound barrier>, so that drives me nuts too)

Dej, if they set up camp on your property just drag out your sprinkler and water that section of the yard!! They'll get the message.
