In reading that and I see that everything I eat has some small part MSG like ingredients..bah!!

I drink bottled water, reg 7up and reg OS Cranberry juice, has no ASP or MSGs, although 7up has High Fructose.

How come the FDA allows food MFGs to disguise allergins???

I'm mostly concerned about my children and my granddaughter, and those to follow. At this stage of the game, I don't really care. I mean, I'm not going to eat deep-friend aspartame three times a day, but if I drink a diet coke once a month, oh well.

The problem to me, Blessings2You, is that I get a reaction quickly. I don't have to wait until I get cancer later. I tried Splenda in a natural foods store, put it in my coffee cause it was there on the counter. Within ten minutes I was having trouble checking out, management called 911. I could not focus on signing check, could not turn to the right to
push cart, and was silly like a drunk. Very quick reaction. Aspartame would not have that quick a reaction, but then I have not tried it for decades, and maybe now it would. Splenda reaction was gone quickly, but I would not try again.

Yes, Mariel, if I had your issues I would certainly have a different perspective! I have a friend who is (or at least was?) very sensitive to whatever artificial sweetener was in diet soda maybe 20 years ago. That's how she described the feeling, like being drunk. That would certainly make me care!!

When I would send my son to his dads house for the weekend I would say NO soda. NONE, not just a sip, but NONE! and give a list of forbidden foods. We eat clean at our house, and to send him into junk food frenzies wasnt fair. He would come home and tell me that "Mary said it was ok, because its a DIET Caffiene free soda" UGH! that means she gave him 3x the amount of chemicals and 2x the amount of sodium to make up for the flavor that they had to take out. ICK! IF we had soda at my house we would make it. We had a CO2 machine and flavored syrups. It was a rare treat. He would come home with Cheeto dust in his pockets, and doritoes in his bag. I asked what they had for dinner and he would say "hamburger helper" or "McDonalds" OMG! does this man not listen? So, when I started sending adopted daughter with him (she is gluten intolerant remember) she would come back quite sick with diarrhea, vomiting and dizzy and when I would ask what did you eat? "hamburger helper" or "pizza hut" UGH! Each and every time she would come home sick and it would take days to recover.

Please dont feed this to human beings. its gross, it has zero nutritional value and its damaging to a growing human body. ICK!

Dejibo, that's one SENSITIVE family you have. In a way it's a blessing because the kids
reacted to poor food, and hence learned it should be avoided. Those are very bad moves from the children's father, but I hope that they (presumably adults) are remembering what happened and eating better.

My son's wife is REALLY good about cooking healthy, but they do take my grandchildren
to fast food places. My grandchildren so far have NOT inherited any of my sensitivities,
and I am not sure whether my son inherited. Since he is an applied chemist, and survived, I sort of think he did not. Amazing grace after generations.

the problem with these stories is they start blaming aspartame for everything. they're making some big leaps in logic and citing anecdotal evidence as proof and it really is not. while this may end up to be factual, i prefer real proof, as i dont really want to stop my diet coke regimen.

by all means, drinking more water and less sweetened drinks seems healthier, but to blame all these various maladies on aspartame borders on ludicrous, imo

SallyC 06-04-2011 10:52 AM

Yeah Clark, it's like they blame smoking for everything..

Aspartame is evil poison for me, but I smoked for 50 years with no health problems.:p

clarkstar 06-04-2011 01:21 PM

theres a guy with a book out that says milk is poison as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYpafipJyDE

heres one that says sugar is killing you
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDcLCi00g-w

this dr. claims a vegan diet cures "every known disease"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VOSPVg121U

my point is that there are differing opinions and dont watch one video and believe all you see :winky:

Non-organic milk is loaded with growth hormones. Not good for human consumption. Sugar can also be harmful. And the commercial that tells people "sugar is sugar" is made by the HFCS makers..........so no big surprise there.

People need to be smart and informed about the food they put into their bodies. But if I had to choose between aspartame and organic, raw sugar you better believe the organic sugar is going to win. Not that too much of it is good for you just because it's organic but common sense tells you that it's better for you than a man made chemical.

YouTube videos are not reliable sources of information. Folks need to do their own research and know what they're ingesting. Ultimately, it's you that has to live in your body.
