Default Esophageal Spasm?

Just wondering if anyone here has spasms in their throat/esophagus? I've been having these for the past three years (dx four years ago) and thought I was having horrible heart palps that I could feel through my throat and up my neck. My neuro never thought anything about this and said I need to see a cardiologist, so a couple weeks ago I saw a heart rhythm specialist who had me wear a monitor for a whole week. I go back on Thursday for my results. When I saw him a couple weeks ago, he is the one who said he thinks they are esoph spasms. When he listened to my heart he appartently didn't hear through his stethoscope what I was feeling. I do have severe esophagitis (GERD) which I was dx last year. I had a gastoroscopy a year ago...guess I wasn't having spasms when I had that scope done.

Also, this past summer I had my first bout of leg spasms where I felt like my muscles were being ripped off my bones so I went to a rheumy who ran her gauntlet of tests. She said I don't have any of the illnesses she would treat but did notice that my globulin was low so she ran an electrophoresis and immunoglobulins/antibody tests. Found out I have low IGA...the others were normal. She said I need to see my primary care to run further tests cuz this needs to be looked into. I go to my NEW pc next week too. So, Just wondering if any of you have this too??? I did see on some website when I was googling where there can be some relationship with this and immuno diseases..

Thank you!!!

Yes CB1, I've had esoph. spasms before. I don't have them often, but very painful and uncomfortable, when a spasm session is ongoing. I don't know if it has anything to do with MS, but I wouldn't be suprised.

I too thought it was heart stuff. It usually happens at night, after I take my nitetime horse pills. They don't go down smoothly and that usually kicks it off. I may also be in an aggitated state, at the time and that just adds to the drama.

It usually Lasts a couple of hrs, then slowing goes away. Can't sleep until it passes. Always scary as hell.

Since it's not an everyday occurrance, I haven't been to the Doc about it. I hope yours can be treated and you feel better soon.

Try to remember...Not everything wrong with us is because we have MS (though most is ), please see a good gastro dr. I had some issues some years back which was severe acid reflux, also needed a dilitation? of my esophagus who knew? Acid reflux stopped ..no red sauce in late evening ,no just before eating before bed (maybe no meds b4 bed would help some too, the procedure (dilitation of spine worked 4 about 10 yrs) might have to go again myself. Just saying ..go to a good gastro dr and get checked out, rule out other possible issues and steps to take before the common possible answer "it could be from your MS" Good luck..we are always learning somehing...good bad or indifferent...
