its 6am! I am headed out to walk. I hope its not so humid yet.

Dejibo 07-21-2011 05:59 AM

Put in 2 miles at about 2mph and then, saw rabbit hollow road. Gave it the raspberry and kept going. Its sooooo humid out even at 6am! the air is so thick you can drink it. I was drenched in sweat before I got to the end of my driveway! its over! The deer flies were really quite hungry this morn and tried hard to make a snack out of me. at one point there were about 6 chasing me. I had to break into a sprint to just get untangled from them.

my whole walk was smack smack! smack smack! and ugh! ouch! Whathe? get off me! The humid air really brings them out.

Jack the cat watched me happily come home and gave me a nice meeeeeeeeeeooooooow greeting. atta boy, cheerlead mom.

dmplaura 07-21-2011 08:02 AM

Ugh... Deer Flies. :o I loathe those things Dej!! Been too cold for them up here this summer I think (only been 'circled' by 1 last week on a sweltering hot day). Horse flies are even more 'ick' (the ones here as I recall are a sickly green body + gray/black translucent wings).

Speaking of bugs, I miss the hum of the Cicadas in the summertime. They're an incredibly ugly/grotesque bug if you've ever seen one (thankfully for me, it was dead or I'd have screamed - age 6 or so). Long story short, we don't have Cicadas in Moncton, NB, or not this year... only 1 summer I can recall hearing them, and it was during a very hot couple days.

I went on my 30 minute walk this morning and the air was nice and cool. Sun was behind cloud, it had rained earlier this morning so the ground was damp. Was starting to get humid as I walked the last stretch.

It was very dark/stormy looking last night, but I did manage to get my 5km walk in (did 5km the night prior as well, and put in about 20km in the 2 days of my weekend - a lot of walking). Tonight I may walk 30 min after dinner (I find it somewhat helps digestion to take a leisurely paced walk after supper), but if the weather's bad I may play my Wii instead (maybe yoga!).

SallyC 07-21-2011 09:58 AM

This is a "the heck with it" kinda day..

You guys are great and you make me look bad, but I don't care..:p

I shall do the minimum required and not an ounce more..:D

:grouphug:

Erin524 07-21-2011 12:12 PM

I was thinking about going to the gym after I get back from the eye doctor, but I woke up this morning with a very sore knee. I have no idea what I did to my knee. I just woke up and it feels like something tried to rip the kneecap off.

Anyone else wake up with what feels like a sprained knee that seems to come out of nowhere before? (pain goes from my knee up to my hip. I cant bend my knee without wanting to yell) Is this some bizzarro MS thing? Or did the aliens from the Questions thread visit me last night?

EddieF 07-21-2011 01:35 PM

Lots of joint supps out there that work. Takes a month of steady dose to work into joints. Lack of exercise also causes it :)

EDIT - Dej I know what you mean & I HATE bugs since I breath mostly thru mouth so if it's past say 4pm, I'm not going.

Vonn07 07-21-2011 02:11 PM

okay - I'm getting BETTER ...

I took out my little 2-step stepladder .. and would just go up one, both feet, down, one foot then the other ... and did it steady for 3-minutes!! stood up straight .. and marched up and down one step ...

AND did 6 different arm exercises with weights while I sat by the computer reading ...

my goal -back to my Army basic training weight ... 20 lbs to go!!

Dejibo 07-21-2011 04:23 PM

Im so proud of you!:cool:

EddieF 07-21-2011 05:11 PM

Way to go Vonn! Dej what a great idea you had bringing topic back.

Vonn07 07-21-2011 09:07 PM

yep - thanks, Dej ...

it would be nice if we could lose weight with all this sweating in the heat!! LOL

Dejibo 07-22-2011 08:33 AM

I got so overheated last night that I chose to take the day off. Staying in the AC, I am not doing anything stressful. Got a new DVD/blu ray player that gets netflix, hulu, vudu and the rest, so my exercise shall be a game of Wii bowling today.

btw, I have lost 12 pounds in the last 10 weeks with Weight Watchers with my modified versions. If you remember I simply couldnt eat all the points they gave me, so my body thinks I am starving and wants to hold onto every calorie. It was awful that I couldnt lose weight, so that is why I started walking to the mailbox. They told me I had to trick my body into thinking calories are plentiful because we are exercising, and burning them so rapidly surely must mean that more are coming soon. Its been a battle, but the scale is budging. I think I will lose another 10 and call it quits.

I started off being winded just checking the mail! then I walked to the neighbors house and then back, and so on till I got used to it. Learned to breathe more deeply, and started stepping. Somedays I dragged myself home in failure, and other days I dragged myself home in pride, but I kept at it. That is the key. Bad day or good day or a day of puke on the side of the road from being too hot, I kept at it.

Come on! join me in a day off! then...its time to get up.

TXBatman 07-22-2011 10:05 AM

Did a 45 minute spin class last night. Went super hard (the instructor really gets in my head and motivates me to work hard). By the time I walked out, my shirt was literally drenched and dripping like I had gotten caught in a downpour.

One more class this afternoon and I get my t-shirt. I have done 14 classes now since June 27th. Also have two after work road rides totalling 29 miles and one weekend road ride totalling 54 miles. I have rededicated myself to a more disciplined diet since 4th of July and have lost around 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I am 256lbs now and my goal is to be under 220lbs by December. Cutting myself to one dr. pepper a day and eating smaller portions has been hard, but seems to be working.

Vonn07 07-22-2011 11:25 AM

wow .. everyone is doing AWESOME!!! :yahoo:

I've done my arm exercises .. going to do the step - 3 min today .. it doesn't sound like much - but, it's helping me with my stability and balance!!

have a great day!!

p.s. make that a 2-min drill .. non-stop - set my microwave ... and stayed with it!!

Dejibo 07-23-2011 08:07 AM

I woke at 5:50 am to the sound of THUNDER! Wahoo! this means no walks, yes?....DH appears ten minutes later "you ready?" um...honey, its thundering! he said "lets go before the rain starts up hard." UGH! I swore under my breath. jerked on my pants, shrugged on my shirt yanked up my socks, and stomped into my shoes, and wandered to the door. I have a shelf by the back door where the sunglasses, hair wraps, bug spray and other things live. I slid on my hair wrap so I didnt have to untangle the rats nest, and stepped outside to a shower of bug juice. Hmmm...its cooler than I thought it would be, but also more humid than I expected. The little devil on my shoulder made many excuses, but I kept stepping.

Did my 2 miles, drenched in sweat, a bit short of breath from the humid air, and I have that wonderful clenching back in my pelvis, but I kept stepping. Hit home, and stood in front of the AC naked! got cooled off, and took my shower, and then...

I put my PJs back on. im done for the whole day! Told DH to count me out of anything but down time. He said "agreed! lets just sit and watch a movie"

EddieF 07-23-2011 12:11 PM

Good job! I actually prefer (only way I will this time of yr) cloudy world ending sky cause sunshine load goes to 0 & temps 10F cooler. I'm sticking with 30 pool laps/day tlll it cools off. 30 a day every day for a week or so now. I use stopwatch just for kicks to see how long it takes. 1hr 5min including getting in/out, drying off & smoking my cigarette while chair drips dry.

SallyC 07-23-2011 12:16 PM

I put my right foot in, I pull my right foot out, I put my right foot in and I shake it all about!!! And for me folks, "that's what it's all about"...really....:D

EddieF 07-23-2011 12:17 PM

Sally congrats! If all you can do is blink eyes (speaker said)..blink your eyes. ANYTHING"S better then nothing.

dmplaura 07-23-2011 04:43 PM

Walking in thunder - NO NO NO!! That's the one weather event that I refuse to walk in! :o

I walked 30 min this morning. Tonight's my lazy night, though I did my daily toning while cooking. Last night did just over 30 minutes on my Wii ("We Cheer".. yes, a cheer leading game... okay okay, it has EXCELLENT exercise routines in the workout section, not kidding!). Was a lot of fun, but definitely gets your heart going (if you try to mimic the moves of the avatar, including arms/legs etc...).

Feeling pretty good! Loving my A.M. walks. Thankfully mine hasn't been interrupted by thunder!

Dejibo 07-24-2011 10:11 AM

OMG dont feel good today. woke feeling nauseous and my back is just killing me! so, I sent DH out without me, and rolled over to sleep for 3 more hours. Still feel bad, so no exercise today.

I hope the rest of you did better than I did.

Vonn07 07-24-2011 10:23 AM

morning ... it's been thundering and raining on and off since 3a ... but, it's going to be a great day!!

already got my arm exercises in .. will do the steps, shortly ...

stay cool everyone .. feel better, Dej (um, have you been eating okay during this heat?? I know, I haven't ... need to keep the water going - no soda!!:D ) hugs, my friend!

Kitty 07-24-2011 10:54 AM

Tried walking on the treadmill this morning. Toes of my left foot kept hitting the walking belt and tripping me up. Made for a very aggravating exercise session. I'll keep trying because I'm pretty sure it's the heat/humidity in the air that's messing with my gait.

Erin524 07-24-2011 11:52 AM

I was planning on using the treadmill earlier this week, but hurt my knee somehow during my baseball weekend. Not sure what I did, but it hurts to bend my knee. Thinking it was a combination of a bunch of walking, and maybe the swimming I did. Either I pulled something, or maybe all the spasticity I've had lately in my legs is somehow to blame.

Going to try to go to the gym today. All I want to do is walk on the treadmill for maybe five minutes, just to make it move around. Not going for any distance, I just want to walk for a few minutes, going to try to do the same at least every other day this week.

Vonn07 07-24-2011 02:43 PM

okay - didn't 'do' the stairs today ...

but, I walked 2 miles - took me 1/2 an hour ... and by the time I got home - I was starting to hurt .. but, WORTH it ..

I've been APPROVED for AMPYRA ... waiting for the Rx from the doctor to get that started (received the pre-approval from Humana, for it tho!) ...

today is a day of rest - working on my 'to-do' list but, ENJOYING working on little tasks and finishing them ... like putting the rear-view mirror back on the windshield!!

dmplaura 07-24-2011 04:18 PM

Was out earlier walking and shopping, got my groceries, did all my housework today. It's nice out now, so I'll walk after dinner 30 min or so. Going to go do my toning/cooking now.

I have been eating a good diet, and drinking very well, but I am thinking about juicing and throwing a ton of good vitamins and minerals (micro nutrients) at my system. Not sure what happened. I think I have a bug. I am feverish, and my back is screaming mad which normally happens when I run a fever. I am glad its happening now, and not on vaca for Tuesday when we are going away.

I am going to spend the next 2 days resting, and will leave on Tuesday rested and ready to enjoy. Thanks for the hugs.

dmplaura 07-24-2011 06:05 PM

Dej, sorry to hear you've been feeling ill. I think the vita-drink idea sounds wonderful! :) I hope you're feeling better soon!

SallyC 07-24-2011 07:28 PM

Doing nothing extra today. Will see how it gos tomorrow.:):grouphug:

EddieF 07-24-2011 07:55 PM

B12 B12 B12 B12 B12. I upped mine from 500 to 1000mcg's every morning. Hope you all take B12 for energy. Notice energy drinks have lots of B's.

SallyC 07-24-2011 09:34 PM

I think I was having an adverse reaction to the 5000mg of methyl b12, so I stopped taking it. I may start up again, once this heat wave subsides.

I'm glad it's helping you Eddie..

Erin524 07-24-2011 11:47 PM

I didnt make it to the gym today. Legs felt really really heavy and tired. I think everything I did last weekend has finally caught up to me, and the heat this week has sucked all my energy out of me too.

Did manage to take my parents grocery shopping tho. (we needed ice cream and cookies...you know. The essentials!)

Grocery shopping counts as exercise, because you have to do a ton of walking

Dejibo 07-25-2011 06:31 AM

I am supposed to be taking the day off, but now that its cool, I want to try to get this place in order, for tomorrow we leave on Vacation! so, I will be doing house work in stead of walking, and anyone who tells you that housework isnt real work needs to be slapped! So, I will punch in about 2 hours of work. Laundry, changing beds, washing floors, dusting...you get the idea. I have a cleaning girl coming, but I work with them. I have them do the things I cant like wiping down the walls, or scrubbing out the tubs. That bending over stuff is hard on me.

Tomorrow morn I will take a mini walk and then we are off for a few days.

SallyC 07-25-2011 08:26 AM

Welcome to my bare essentials week.

Have some mint chocolate chip for me, Dej..:D

dmplaura 07-25-2011 02:57 PM

Been out walking and taking photographs of the flowers in bloom. Beautiful time of the year. :)

EddieF 07-25-2011 06:18 PM

25 pool laps today 25 yesterday + 200 hand gripper reps.

1000 mcg's B12 every morning. I feel dead without it.

Vonn07 07-25-2011 06:28 PM

been sticking with the arm reps .. and my arms are hurting (good way) ... I do hold a weight ...

well, I OD'd on the walking - but kept up with a shorter walk today .. and did some dismantling of a closet door, and cupboard doors on a corner cabinet- why there were doors on it in the first place is beyond me!!

the closet now has a curtain ...

that makes 3 doors (big doors) ... so, the walking and sweating .. holding and maneuvering them around to make more room is a real plus!! they make real good shelving!! or office desk (already has a hole for the cords!!) :D

Erin524 07-25-2011 06:37 PM

managed to get to the gym, and once I found a treadmill that wasnt occupied or broken, I did 20 minutes and .39 of a mile on it. (finally!)

Had to pay my gym membership before I could do anything tho. My dad's credit card was stolen about a month ago, and we're still finding things the old card was attached to. (he was paying my membership as a gift. Now it's on my card, but only for this month. Dad wants the points he gets from using his card)

At least now the muscle in my leg by my right hip that's been feeling like it needs to be stretched has finally gotten to do something. It's constantly stiff and numb feeling...last few days it hurt, so now that I was able to walk on it for a sustained amount of time, it feels a little bit better. Now if I can just keep going every day or every other day for the next year or so, it might start feeling more normal.

Vonn07 07-26-2011 10:47 PM

a friend called today - and we were talking about exercise stuff - and he knows my limitations and my 'love' (sarcastically speaking) .. and he mentioned this cord thing .. each cord is a weight strength ... and the cost is minimal .. start up: $45 (with shipping) ...

I'm going to call them about changing what they have as a kit with 3-40 lb cords .. and see about getting 10 or 20 lb cords instead ... TNT starter (something) ..

can I mention the website?? the guy that designed them is from Madison, WI ... and you don't have to have a bunch of weights around!! and there's another piece (for $6 I think) to attach to the hinge of the door and you can work out at 3 different heights ...

there's different things for different kinds of workouts ...

www.lifelineusa.com

p.s. my friend said that he loves it .. he's an OTR truck driver ... and can do arm stretches inside - and he said it's already making a difference after just a few weeks - he kept saying "I didn't know I was getting so weak!" .. and realize ... he's a big guy!!

dmplaura 07-27-2011 07:42 AM

Did my 30 min AM walk yesterday (and this morning!), 20 minutes of tone, approximately 5km walk after dinner last night (somehow managing to dodge the rain).

Today's going to be a rough day. My pain's on a level 7/10 right now due to weather changes. I thought perhaps my stroll this morning may help clear the pain a little, but no such luck.

I just need my Friday to get here again soon! Haha!

Loving the updates folks! :grouphug: what a great bunch!

Dejibo 07-27-2011 12:09 PM

walked 45 mins uphill in one direction and 45 mins back down in the other. took some nice photos of scenes and local wildlife. looking forward to going home tomorrow. this bed is hard, its loud here, and sleep was cat naps, so im tired.
