Sept. 6 was the day. The MS diagnosis came out of the blue 4 years ago. And I mean out of the blue. I had no problems until 3 weeks prior to the MRI. Then my GP says, let's just do an MRI to be safe. I get home at 4:30 from the MRI and at 6 pm I get the call from the doc, "I'm sorry I have some bad news." Then I fainted. How do others deal with these weird anniversaries? I almost forgot it this year but was only reminded because a friend was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis today.
I wish I had forgotten this anniversary--so close! That diagnosis was so traumatic. I'm sure for others, who were seeking answers, it was more reassuring or helpful. Stupid MS, I say!! Oh carp...maybe I even got this wrong and it was the 7th. ![]()

I remember the month I was diagnosed but that's about it. I do remember the circumstances but try not to dwell on it. It's just something I remember......like birthdays, anniversaries, appointments, grocery list items.

I consider it my 'new birthday' now, I made so many GOOD lifestyle changes since the diagnosis, and honestly changed my life like flipping an old home.
I don't celebrate my official birthday, with that said, nor do I do anything special come diagnosis anniversary. I think about the time that I was diagnosed, but as time passes I think less and less about it. Just another day.

Natalie -
![]() ![]() I've been dx 5 years now. I don't remember the exact day the dr. told me but I do know I had a major flare in Aug. '05 and it took months to recup. At that time, they felt it was an isolated case. By 12/31/05, yes New Year's Eve, I started to have new symptoms crop up. It was within the next week or so that I received a definite dx. Was I relieved? I don't know. In a way, yes because I had a name for all these weird things that had been going on for a few years and now knew that the lesions were MS lesions and not from a headache or virus or something like that. On the other hand, no. It was changing my life in a way I was not prepared for. Although, in hindsight, some of those changes were actually really good changes. All in all, I know that I could have been diagnosed with something far worse and I always remind myself of that. At one point they were thinking I had a nerve tumor in my spine - not cool!!! I know of others who have received far worse dx than me and in a way I am thankful it is only MS, despite the challenges it presents. |
