Call your doctor and see what his opinion is, perhaps some medication or massage therapy can help. I don't think is sounds like the MS hug to me, which has been with me for about 12 years straight. It's the pits. Whoever named it the hug, had a terrible sense of humor.
I often refer to it as the MS Vise Grip. It is not a hug!!! Like you, I've had it for years. Mine started in 1997 (pre MS dx - I was dx in Jan. 06). At 1st it was on and off, now it is all the time and has been that way since around 2003. Some days are good and others are bad. I get regular massages now and that helps. Some days she is amazed at how much those intercostals are in a spasm. The massages do help me and I'm so thankful I found a MT I could afford.
