Default Ok, that was scary!

I just got woken up by the muscle spasm from Heck!

I was sleeping and all of a sudden I had a pain in my left leg (upper thigh, almost into the groin, and the back of my leg..) I got up out of bed to stand on it, which is what I usually do when I have a really bad charley horse. It didnt help.

I went into the bathroom because since I'd just gotten woken up, I had to...go... Waited till I thought the charley horse was gone. Sat down and then BAM! got hit with it again. (not a good time, it nearly made me fall over)

Managed to stand up again, and the pain was really bad, so I stumbled back into my room and grabbed my bottle of baclofen and managed to take one while I was trying not to scream. The pain was so bad that I thought I was going to throw up. Very nearly did. I had to stand over my sink with the water running and splashing water onto my face for about ten minutes.

I still dont feel good, and now I'm afraid to go back to bed even tho the pain seems to have stopped for the moment. I'm really glad I'm going to the neuro later today. I can actually sit down now, even tho I'm afraid my leg is going to freak out again.

Not sure if I did something yesterday that would trigger a pulled muscle/charley horse/weirdest spasticity ever/whatever the heck it is.

Anyone ever had a muscle spasm in their leg so bad that it made them almost physically ill? I have a feeling my leg is going to hurt really really badly later.

Guess I'll go get ready to see the neuro even tho I dont have to be there till 3.

Edited to Add:

Figured out what caused it. Last night I dropped a coin at the grocery store. Bent over to pick it up and felt a muscle get pulled in the back of my leg. I said to the cashier that my leg didnt like my bending over like that. (didnt bend my knees like you're supposed to do...doh!) I didnt think anything of it at the time, and didnt even remember doing it till I dropped my comb this morning and went to bend over to pick it up and couldnt because the Charley Horse from Heck that I had this morning. (entire leg hurts now)

Going to the neuro later. Going to ask him if MSers get pulled muscles easier and ask how to stop charley horses from attacking me. Think I'm going to try to do some basic stretches tonight or go to the gym after I get back from the neuro and walk for a little bit.

Yes. I've even nearly fainted following a muscle spasm/Charlie Horse in my leg. I went completely cold/clammy, and then about 2 = 3 minutes later had a visual 'aura'. Frightening as heck!

It scared the crap out of me. When it hurt so bad, I thought I was going to be sick. Even when I broke an arm when I was 7 (and again at 11yrs old), I've never had pain make me feel so bad that I wanted to throw up, pass out, and die.

I think I at least have an explanation for what caused it with pulling the muscle in my leg last night, but geeze, I've never had pain like that before. It felt like someone was cutting my leg off, or like it had been crushed or something. I'm still feeling a little shaky just thinking about how much it hurt.

Really hoping that this isnt a harbinger of doom for any future problems from the MS.

I got one or two of those in my calf muscles when I was pregnant. They tell pregnant women that they are from a lack of potassium and to eat more bananas. Might be worth a try.

I'll make a banana split tonight for dessert!

I just got back from walking a half mile at the gym. Hope I dont regret that tonight.

My neuro, when I saw him today for a regularly scheduled visit, said that it was more likely that I pulled something in my thigh from not bending my knees properly when bending over last night...the fact that it was so painful this morning was probably because I have some spasticity and spasticity and pulled muscles dont always get along. Told me to use some baclofen for the next couple of nights and try to stretch some every night...or at least walk and exercise to keep my muscles from tightening up so much.

So now, I have to figure out what stretches to do to hopefully keep nasty charley horses away. Dont want those again!
