Default It takes a village

I just read an AP news article, wish I knew how to copy it, about a 'village program' for senior citizens or those with disabilities. It said they are mostly in the east. They are non profit have an annual membership fee and then when you need help volunteers help you. This particular village had a fee of $530 but if this man needed to go to the doctor it took him. He was blind and lived alone so someone did his grocery shopping for him. They also had a list of local contractors that would do simple things around the house for discounted or free. Some had one fee for a single household and then a little bit more for a couple. Have any of you heard about this? It sounds wonderful.

I found this:

Sounds like a great idea. Hopefully it will become a reality in all towns.

I would even bet that you might be able to barter services for the fees.

What a great idea...thanks Doydie and all.

I looked for a similiar villiage thingy in my little suburban city and we have a senior center offering all these services to Senior citizens. Don't know about the fees yet but glad to know it's all available.

Isn't it sad that modern times demand we pay for things like this...I can remember when I was young church groups & neighbors would step up & do these things.
Another sign of the breakdown of our "villages".
