hey Sally. When I broke my toes and had to wear a cumbersome cast, trying to make the nightly bathroom break was difficult. So this is what I did...
On the carpet next to my bedside I placed a bathmat, the type with a rubber nonslip bottom. My thought was that if there was any leakage, it was on a washable item that I could wash. My walker was also positioned in a key spot at my bedside so that when I stood up, I used it for balance. I bought paper Depends. Poise pads can shift and I wanted a more secure item. I stood up and peed into the Depends. It worked better than I expected, no leaks really. On my nightstand I had a scissors to cut it off on the sides so that the wet diaper did not have to be pulled down my legs and get any urine on them as I had finished. I also had a small wastebasket with a plastic bag inside and dropped my used diaper into it. I used moist towelettes to clean myself properly and those went into the wastebasket. A small hand towel was also within reach and I would put it on the bed so that I could sit down and not have my wet posterior on my clean bed. Another diaper was also handy and I would put it on. Peeing into a diaper while standing was a mental thing but it all worked with everything set up and ready for me to do my business, be clean and get back into bed. I hope I was clear in what I did. I felt clean. I hope this helps. Sally, what happened was a bad thing but it is not about the bad thing, it is about solving the problem and moving forward. |
Hi sally
I am so sorry you had trouble with your legs. Home health care is a wonderfull arrangement. They give you a complete evaluation every time they come over. If getting to the doctor is that difficult, don't hesitate for the home visits. It also can take stress off of you, regarding getting to and from those appts. I hope your leg heals, and that your strength comes back. Rest alot, and eat healty foods. I am thinking about you. ginnie

Here in town along with our regular city bus system we have one of the buses that is handicap. It has the hydraulic ramp that comes down and you drive your scooter onto the city bus. You have to work on their schedule and that sometimes can be a problem.

I missed this yesterday! Hugs and prayers for ya Sally:hug: I seriously do not have a clue what I would do in your situation. I need to plan and prepare.

Hey, Sally, how are you doing???

Hi Sally
I am so sorry you are not sleeping well. I have potty trouble too. I get up so many times, that I don't sleep soundly. I also have to wear protection sometimes, and I hate that worst of all. Wish it was better for you. I do believe you will heal your leg from that fall. As long as nothing was broken, with time you will get stronger. I am thinking of you, and hoping things will get easier for you. ginnie
