Thanks for all the useful commentary and encouragement. Sometimes I forget how great this place is!
![]() I got results back from a renal sonogram and they were normal. I did the urodynamic testing a year ago with a different practice and it was the most traumatic/stressful procedure I have ever had. The woman was running behind so she rushed with me, she was not friendly, jammed the catheter in (which I had never had before) and filled me up with water and then said PEE! While leaving the blinds wide open. I was so stressed out I just couldn't release. Thus, all they could tell me was that my pelvic floor was very tight (basically clenched up). DUH! I did bio feedback which was very interesting--learning how to squeeze the pelvic floor and release over and over. But the urologist said that doesn't help with anything if the true problem is the spincter (which definitely means neurogenic). Anyhow I know what you mean about sitting on the toilet and trying to relax enough to urinate. I feel like I should be zen meditating on the toilet! ![]() Anyhow the plan is watch and wait, try not to get worked up over it and go back in 3 months for a follow up. I also had kidney stones a few years ago and of course there were the endless UTIs on Tysabri until I switched to every 8 weeks. And a personal question for the ladies: are you finding this killing your sex life because you are paranoid you will get a UTI after intercourse so you have no sex urge? Cheers and thanks!

I have the same problem, have been told painkillers weaken the bladder, not sure if that's true, but sitting and relaxing definitely helps

Hi all I'm new here was just diagnosed with Neurogenic bladder. My urologist wants me to self cath 4 times a day. On Monday and Friday I work eight hours in security (can't leave post) and take Lasix as well. I can't help but wonder if it Is just easier to wear a Foley on those two days verses trying to fit in a straight cath as quickly as I can. Is this even feasible?

I'd say whatever you feel is going to work best for you. I don't know anything about Neurogenic bladder as I am the opposite(I don't have retention) I have urge and gotta go gotta go type stuff. I take meds for it and it is effective. My username says it all.... P is for......Pee ![]() The opposite(what you have) seems like it would be more frurstrating, not being able to go... sounds painful. Personally I'd see if yo ucould get out of that position and if not, try different methods till you find one that works great. That's all I have, others can help you more. |

giving someone lasix and telling them to cath is cruel & unusual punishment, imho.
i'm on diuretics too and take vesicare for a neurogenic bladder. it works great and i don't have problems. i would definitely try medication before i'd cath. too much risk of getting infections with catheterizing. that's what i think. i'm surprised your drs didn't explore all the options with you instead of just leaping to catheterizing.

Is a neurogenic bladder the type when you don't know you have to urinate? I can go for 5-6 hrs and think to myself, "Guess I should try." Then when I see the toilet it's hurry up and get those pants down
