Im getting tired of the snide remarks, dirty looks and disgusted sounds people make at me when they see me get out of my van in a handicap parking spot. I no longer drive, so my dh has to do it all. Im seriously looking for a bumper sticker that says "I have MS, so YES I can park here!!!" Venting... complete

I have only compassion for those who are fixated on making and expressing such judgements; for they are far more disabled than any accommodating parking space can assist with.

I hear ya,
You're lucky to find handicap parking... I was at wal mart today and they were all taken...It takes me forever to walk and I get impatient stares from people... If I could walk quicker or better I would! Vent away, that's why we're here Cindy ![]() |

It's always nice when someone can SEE you have a cane.....therefore walking slow.......and still revs their engine when going around you in a parking lot.

Kitty, Ive had the same thing happen to me. I use a walker and my dh stands between me and the traffic because people just dont want to be patient. I have to use those motorized carts in the stores, and I need 2 hands to count how many times people have just ran into me and told me to watch where IM going!! My dh wonders why I dont like going out.... gee... let me think why?!?!?

I actually like it when people leave shopping carts in the wheelchair access area of the parking spots (next to the spot, not actually in the parking spot). My dad can barely walk since he's missing his ACL and he's got ankle problems from it. He NEEDS the support of a shopping cart (he also uses a cane) If someone leaves the shopping cart next to the spot, then I dont have to go inside and get a shopping cart for him.
Big plus if there's more than one cart there, because then I can use one too! (I have an AFO on my right foot and I also use a cane) So, I dont mind shopping carts in the handicap access areas as long as they arent blocking anyone's ability to park their car. It is irritating to get the snarky comments from people who think you're "not handicapped enough" to park in handicap parking. As long as a person has a valid permit. I dont need to be able to "see" someone's handicap, because even if they look great walking in, I know they might just be crawling back out to their car after a shopping trip.

Now that I'm white haired, nobody snarks at me. I had a few parking snarks years ago. I would park, then would look fairly normal walking. I "meandered" but then so did Marilyn Monroe. Now I have to place my feet carefully so I won't take any chance of falling, since my feet are numb, and I"ve had a broken knee from falling down stairs. Nobody questions my disability. My feet have improved, as I explained in other threads, so now I walk pretty fast--maybe someone will snark at me. But then there are lots of parking spaces here...I'm in a small town in the middle of a desert.
