Hi All,
I've just had my first MRI and lesions have been found; I'm waiting to see the neurologist to find out more. In the meantime, I'm trying to do as much research as possible. I'm curious to know what people here think of Terry Wahls' MS diet. She is a physician and researcher at the University of Iowa who was severely disabled due to MS. She claims to have made a complete recovery through changing her diet. Please watch her 17-minute talk and let me know what you think. I am one of those who are not impressed with the Wahls diet, although not denying that some have claimed help with it. I believe it's too high in protein, low in complex carbs, and high in fats to be suitable for me. I am, rather, on the MS low fat diet (The MS Diet by Roy L. Swank, MD). Not everyone likes the Swank diet either. I tried the "caveman" diet which was somewhat like Wahls' and in four days was in extreme pain and went back to Swank. I am sure others will chime in about diet. Doesn't seem to be a firm opinion one way or the other.

Terry Wahl's diet plus two books "Deep Nutrition" and "Stop Alzheimer's Now" has been my ticket back to health. I began to experience neuromuscular issues on my right side (I think it was early Parkinson) after 2 years of treating diverticulitis with a high-carb, high-fiber, low-fat diet. The neurologist declared that there was nothing wrong with me after two MRIs, but I was getting worse by the month with pain stiffness and finally a tremor in my hand.
The paleo diet plus moderate organic dairy (butter, yogurt, cottage cheese), less than 100g of daily carbs, high in fat has worked. Stop Alzheimer's Now led me to coconut and MCT oils....this has been a miracle. Terry Wahls protocol stopped my deterioration; adding coconut oil to my diet returned me to 99% of my original health. I never cheat; avoiding all gluten, grains and especially sugar and vegetable oils. Simple rule: if God didn’t make it, then don’t eat it. Return to what man ate for a million years...plus consume MCTs found in coconut oil. The only other place we ever received MCTs is human breast milk. They are also in unpasteurized goat & cow milk, but smaller quanitities. |
