Hi Julie, yes, I get this all the time. My entire scalp starts burning and tingling. In fact, I've been going through this all day today! My face and scalp feel like they're on fire.
My neuro says that it is MS-related; and as Kitty Lady says, if you look up trigeminal neuralgia, your source may mention scalp burning as well as facial burning. I get this in my face as well as my scalp, but it's not terribly painful; mainly it burns and makes me feel like I've got a big ole fever! At night, this often affects one side of my head and my ear, so that the outer ear is really burning and uncomfortable; so much so, in fact, that I can't sleep on that side; even the pillow hurts. The problem is, I can't sleep on my other side because the MS neuropathy in that leg is so bad. Oh well, that's what pain pills are for! If it weren't for a little medicinal help, I would be up gritting my teeth and flailing my legs all night long! The good news (for me, anyway) is that I don't have the scalp/face burning all the time; it comes and goes. I'll go for days without it, then it creeps up again. Like everything else in MS, I almost barely notice it when it shows up again, because I've gotten so used to it! |
