i have a generic Rx of miralax.
the directions say take 1 T mixed in 8 oz of water or juice each nite at bedtime for chronic constipation or as directed.

it's a prescription laxative. the 1st BM should happen in 2-4 days. the drug info says that the patient should 1st have a PE to detect any metabolic, endocrine & neurogenic condition. should include a structural exam of the colon.

pt should be educated about eating fiber, adequate fluid intake and exercise.

it doesn't describe this as a long term solution. the generic name is polyethylene glycol 3350 powder for solution.

hope that answers some Q's. how about seeing a gastroenterologist?
