Hi, I'm new here (and pending official diagnosis).
I had alot of stress last August and suddenly developed nerve pain. Some of it is due to a sudden latex/foam rubber (carpet and sofa) allergy. It also branches out to some cleaning products and chemicals though. Mostly if I touch something with my hands or chemicals get on my feet (I wear clothes that usually cover my arms and legs) I feel a burning sensation. It stops if I wash the chemical off. Alot of times I assume it is sun screen (we were at the beach when it really started) or a lotion. For a while I could only tolerate soap with lemongrass in it (don't know why). The latex issue is something I noticed at the same time when I sat on the sofa at the beach house. It took 9 months to get the diagnosis, but that has helped some. I now get anaphylactic reactions from rubber pen grips etc. The nerve problem has persisted. I can't touch new clothes bc of the "sizing" and chemicals they spray them with for display in the stores. This really came on suddenly last August and I'm kind of hoping there is some type of medication that can dull the effects. Thanks, Luna |

Welcome LunaMarie!
First of all.....so sorry you have to deal with this! I'm not sure what drugs they use for nerve pain....but others from this site may know. However; for my nerve pain....the doctor wanted me to try Lyrica. I have declined due to the fact that I am on so many meds. Thought I'd stick it out awhile before I added a new drug. You may also want to look into acupuncture. ![]()

Thanks Karilann!
I know alot of meds have side effects, but it's about time on my part to try something. I was hoping this would just fade away on it's own, and it's not doing so. Take care, Luna |

hi luna and welcome to NT,
i'm sorry for what you're going thru. i would get an appt with a dermatologist asap. if needed your pcp can give you a referral. i would also ask him about carrying an epi pen with you. if you come in contact with something you're allergic to and have an anaphylactic reaction that's life threatening you give yourself the shot; then call 911. that dr will be able to suggest meds to help with your sx's (symptoms). please let us know how you are.

LunaMarie,
Yoou might want to see the resources available at the Allergies and Multiple Chemical Syndrome forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum90.html Unfortunately, there isn't an active forum there but there are resources. Then you might want to search the web for "Multiple Chemical Syndrome." ANN |
