Default Over nervous

Ok, I know with all the posts I've made lately you know what a horrible time I have been having. Well, I was going to back out of my bf wedding, but I have decided against it. I decided to go ahead with it. Id already bought the dress and shoes and the wedding is in a few days now, so its too close to back out now. Well, my relapse is still going strong and no signs of letting go anytime soon. Its liking to play tricks with me tho. One day I can talk fine, the next im all slurring and cant find my words. I see the neuro the 24th, just a few days after we get back. Im just afraid of looking drunk infront of a lot of folks I don't know. I guess the nerves are just kicking in now, and I cant even be excited to see my grand babies.

Don't worry KittyLady,
Most people can tell the difference between drunkeness and a neurological issue after awhile (if you do have problems at the wedding).
Maybe focus on seeing the friends and family that you haven't seen for a while. Surely they will be happy to see you and will be glad that you went .

With love, Erika

I take my cane everywhere with me. Even though it does nothing to help steady my gait or help me to walk. It's simply there so others don't jump to the conclusion that I drank my lunch. It's a hassle and I dislike having to carry it around but unfortunately people tend to jump to conclusions quickly rather than assume someone has a medical issue.

I felt the same way in May at my son's wedding. It was an outdoor wedding and the area we had to walk was so uneven. I have trouble walking on perfectly flat land so this was a true test of endurance for me! But I had fun and really didn't even think about what others thought. And, to be honest, they were having too much fun to even notice me!

Great idea Kitty. Thanks.

I take mine with me most of the time as well because it actually does help me with balance, but I never thought about the other benefit with respect to others' perceptions.

So true about most people being caught up in their own business to get overly concerned about what is going on with anyone else...especially when having a good time is on the schedule .

With love, Erika

I bet this will be the same way. Enjoy this special day for your BF.

Oh my gosh kittylady I totally feel for you!

I was just in my bf's wedding and legitimately almost passed out on the alter! I wasn't having a relapse, but was having MAJOR side effects to Tecfidera and wasn't eating a whole lot for fear of vomiting on her during the ceremony, haha. I guess fainting wouldn't have been much better, but neither happened since I was able to give myself a mental peptalk when I was almost going over and it went fine.

Hopefully you'll do just as well!

Definitely take your cane. That is a clue to clueless people in social situations. You can also take a more humorous approach and were a name tag with some funny quote or something on it that explains your situation without having to spell it all out. I think most people would know something was up if you have your cane. Without the cane, it may be a different story. So, go have fun and enjoy seeing family/friends and just doing something different.

BTW - When I first read your post (and others) I thought, oh she should talk to her boyfriend if she's thinking of not going to his wedding, assuming you are a participant in the marriage and he's not marrying someone else. Then I realized you were talking about your best friend.

Yepp and when I was first using my cane I was embarrassed I find out that having people seem my cane helps them know I have problems and not just some lazy drunk. When I slip on finding my words and slurr, they see the cane and think "ok, poor dude has problems" and not drunk. So in essence, my cane embarrassment has now become my "explanation" and makes me feel more confident in public.

Please don't worry...they know yo uhave MS right? just throw your arms in the air and say screw it....enjoy yourself.

OMG, her wedding was such a cluster, nobody walked down the isle with anyone, it was a disaster, but a fun disaster! The other brides maid helped me up the stairs along with the minister and the had a chair up there for me to sit on. It was a very boring wedding but a total blast and blessing to see everyone I hadn't seen since I left that little town so many years ago. Sure do miss them all!!
