i'm glad you're seeing the neuro soon.
you might consider a cane to see if it can help. when i first started to use mine it felt so foreign. i hated it. but soon i got used to it and now i can't walk without it, especially around people. i'm fine in my house but outside, nope. but, i CAN walk, and drive. so, it's a good thing.

So sorry to hear about this - having nearly landed myself in both a rose garden and a cactus patch (at different times).
I hope it all goes ok - sounds like lots of fun if you can pull it off. May I be so bold as to suggest investing in a set of training wheels if you are biking though??? ![]() Big hugs - it really bites when it stops you doing things you really want to do.

Hi chaos,
You have a diagnosis of MG correct? From my limited understanding of MG muscle weakness is common. Muscle weakness could very possibly be part of the problem with you falling/almost falling. Have you spoken to the Doctor that treats your MG? If not that might be a good idea ![]() http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/m...nia_gravis.htm http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mya...CTION=symptoms

Same here. I'm getting used to it now, even being young looking(38) and wondering if people are thinking I am faking it ![]() I know some say using these devices is giving in to the disease, but for me bashing my noggin in, is a far worse scenario. Plus it lets people know that I do have some problems and people help me out more than when I didn't use a cane. I keep it in the car always for times I feel I really need to have it. |

Paul, that's it for me, too. If I slow down and think where I'm putting each foot, I don't fall. I haven't fallen since 2010 when I got enthusiastic about going down some stairs because I was going out to dinner with some friends I really liked.
I haven't lost balance much, but in June and early July boy was I unbalanced due to breathing forest fire smoke. Two years ago the forest fire smoke made my eyes spasm back into my head and brought on episodes of ten minute blindness. When I lost balance I REALLY lost it, having to go down a hall by running into the right wall and then into the left wall. My pcp told me to get out of town until the smoke abated. That cost a lot of money for travel and motel. Right now it seems that didn't really happen because I'm upright again. But it did happen. How to live in a place that gets smoked out every year? A cane helps me, and I have one in my car, but I'm afraid of losing it if I'm on an errand where I have to think about something more than hanging onto the cane. I don't do multiple tracks any more. Focus or else. |

Well, going out for the music thing was good. I wore out early, but because my DH is so late with everything, it was half over by the time we got out of the house. Plus DD's tire had a flat and she rode her scooter. It was good to get out, the bike helped me have a seat at all times as it's a bit short for somebody my height (supposedly), but I'd rather have a bike I can stand with. There is no way I would've been able to walk that much, I wanted to give up on the way home but I kept pushing on as my house is way more comfortable then a sidewalk.
I have realized that if I stop for a second after standing, let my body know it needs to stand and walk, that I do a lot better. It seems that I do most of my falling/unbalanced acts when I first stand up. It's just odd having to wait. So it seems common with you all, having to wait until your brain gets that signal to the other part of your body. No, I don't have MG. So far the only official dx is small fiber neuropathy because the EMG was negative. Pain doc thinks MS, PCP doesn't dismiss it. I've ruled out a ton of things, MS is one of the only things that fits everything I have, unless it's a really rare thing I don't know about. |
