Eric, I'm sorry but you don't need to feel guilty or feel like you don't have a right to feel bad once in a while. I went to a grief group after my Mother died and we had to each tell our story of why we were there. After I got done talking, the lady beside me said she had lost her father, brother and husband all within one year. I sat there thinking the same thing you were thinking. The director saw a tear roll down my face. He asked me why the tears. I said the same thing you said. He stopped me right in my tracks and said "well knowing that she has had 3 deaths to your one now, does that make you feel better about your Mother dying?" Of course, I said NO. He explained we all have a right to our own pain and it is just as real as anyone you may feel has it worse than you. He said Don't dismiss it. If you do, it will come back and bite you in the butt. I have a friend that has fibromyalgia and her father told her to stop whining because there were people that are worse off than her. I said to my friend "well that must make you feel a lot better, huh?". No, it didn't. She owns her own pain just as you do Eric. So, instead of feeling guilty, just do more to deal with your own problems. I know about M.S.. My grandson has it at the age of 27. He's almost blind and has to use a cane. He has a right to grieve for his "old self". And he did. But now he is trying very hard to deal with it. That's all you can do. Bless you Eric. |
