Thanks Mrs D! I believe my B12 was in the 450ish range but I will recheck.
My family Doc suggested I take 1-2000iu of vitamin D. I just bought some d3 1000iu. With my daily vitamin and D3, I should be getting 2000iu?? I will check out your links, thank you!! |

The general rule is 1000 IU D3 for every 10 points you need to raise. In your case it would be 3000.
You can add up all the D3 from whatever you eat (milk = 100 IU per 8oz) and your various supplements. Don't count any that say D2.

My Neurologist says not to count the D3 that is in a multivitamin.
Quote:
It is a good idea to re-check your D level about every 6 months. I have found D3, for me, is difficult to regulate. I started out with my D level @ 16. Started 5000iu and it took about a year and a half to bring my level up to 57.2. It was decided to bring my D3 amount down to 2000iu. Within 4 months my level dropped to 27.2. Upped my D3 to 4000iu and will be getting re-tested within a month.

My family doc had the lpn call with my results so I couldn't really ask any questions. She just said to take 1-2000iu...that's it! No retesting/follow up!?!
So I quick asked the Neuro why D was tested and briefly mentions demylenating diseases. I tried to ask him what the best dose etc, and he says, " your family doctor probably knows what to take". Ughh they didn't seem to concerned! |

The majority of the general population, approximately 85(?) percent, has a vitamin D deficiency. Low vitamin D is being linked to many conditions not just MS.
I figured out pretty quick that even the medical profession isn't sure what the right dosage is. It appears to be trial and error. Even if retesting was not mentioned please have your PCP recheck your D level in about 5 or 6 months

Thank you very much for the vitamin d help!
I have another question if you all don't mind. When you have our MRIs, do you get them all with contrast? My brain MRI is with and without contrast and my cervical and thoracic are just without. Thanks! |

The brain ones are usually done with both for me; spinal sometimes also but not always.
