I am tall and thinnish, and use 60 grams per dose. I hope you can get what you need, and if you are refused, have your doc appeal. I sense you are a real fighter and that's what is sometimes needed. Try not to worry until you truly have something about which to worry.

Big hugs!

Thanks 4-eyes,

I may get a bit stressed at times; but not enough to knock me off my game. Worrying is such a waste of precious energy and doesn't serve a purpose in my world. This too will pass...or will be adapted to one way or another.

With love, Erika

Oh my gosh Erika,

I'm glad you know what it is, but I hope you will be able to get treatment for a reasonable price. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Snuggle down with your kitty while you wait for answers.

Wow...what a bombshell, Erika...so strange! Glad your doc was observant.

I am confused about your insurance not covering this treatment. Doesn't Canada have socialized medicine? Or is it "pick and choose what we want to pay for" medicine? is there no type of medical coverage in this world that thinks of the patient?
I have been refused coverage for long term insurance even though i had no dx, my sister was told her defibrillator battery, with only 10 days of charge left, couldn't be replaced because "it wasn't time yet"...sheesh...it's scary being ill nowadays...

Hope you can figure out the best treatment and the best method to pay for it. Does your government have hardship coverage like our Medicaid?

Hugs, sweetie, and prayers

Yes, when it comes to medications, our system is a "pick and choose what we want to pay for" sort of thing. IVIG is covered in some provinces but not in mine. In fact, they don't cover Modafinal, which keeps me from falling asleep in my own lap, either...or most of the other drugs that I've spent money on but ended up reacting to.

Those who have financial hardship are given a break on their insurance premiums (yes we do have to pay for our health care), or if they are really hard up, they get full coverage without paying anything. This is determined by one's income tax form.
Even if there is help with the premiums, that does not help if the plan in one's province does not cover a particular medication that is needed.

"is there no type of medical coverage in this world that thinks of the patient?"
Had a good laugh over that one. Thanks for the chuckle

With love, Erika

Erika,

I know here in the US, people often have trouble getting IVIG as an outpatient, but if they're in the hospital, all the rules change and IVIG flows like a river. Would that possibly be true in Canada, too? I know it's be a BIG inconvenience, but sometimes we have to put up with such things to get the help we need.

That's a definite possibility because I think that the doc will want me admitted for it anyway...if and when we get to that. I'm not thinking about the cost of the stuff at this point, as there is nothing to be done until we get the go ahead on it.
It is a long weekend up here, so it will be a few days yet before I hear back from him regarding how the consultations went with my neuro and whomever else he wanted to talk to.

Till then, just doing my thing .

With love, Erika
