Hi all
I don't even really know how to explain this. My right arm is for all intents and purposes relaxed. Lying on the table, relaxed. But the muscles are twitching, tense, the fingers are doing these little dances like nobody's business. What is it??? Would appreciate any help at all because I can't even google cos I don't know what to google. Thanks heaps. |

To me it sounds like spasticity. Take a look at this article:

Sounds like spasticity. I remember once when I was very tired, at the end of a day teaching school, my arms were on the desk and I could not move them. Eventually, a few minutes later, I was able to move them. But I recognized that I was too tired from overdoing at work. At that time I had no dx.
I have had several episodes like this, but my spasticity is usually less paralyzing. Muscles can get rigid anywhere in my body. And the nerves are eventually damaged in those areas, so that there are twitches or jerking, which happen mostly in my legs or lower back, rarely in my arms, but sometimes affecting the whole spine with a jerk. |

As others have mentioned it could be Spasticity or fasciculations.
There can be many causes for this to happen: - Vitamin/mineral deficiencies - Stress - Different diseases (not limited to MS) - Exercise (affects that can be felt afterwards) - dehydration

Thanks everyone. I ended up ringing the neuro this morning to get in to see him because it is day 6 and zero relief, and feels as though I have been lifting weights for days on end.
My reflexes on that side are now even brisker than they were last time I saw him so neuro wants me to get the MRI done urgently in the next few days rather than waiting the 6 weeks I have left til the scheduled one. Looks like I'll at least have some answers (or be incredibly frustrated if I don't) next week….. |

Great that the neuro is pro-active!
Snoopy, I do feel that dehydration can be one of the causes of these things. Not the whole cause, but exacerbates the basic cause. |

Yep I'm really happy with the neuro.
I drink a truckload of water so I don't think dehydration is a consideration in my particular case. I'm not stressed either. Actually doing pretty well in that regard lol. Have recently addressed my intake of vitamin d (on tablets) and magnesium (dietary - tablets make me ill and am trying to find the localised oil magnesium). I don't have info on B12 level, will ask for that to be done next blood tests I get ![]() |
