OK, I go to my gs's baseball game knowing I would be in the sun for a couple of hours, so I BUY Coppertone suncreen for babies (spf 50) as I forget mine. Believe me I always put sunscreen on and carry it with me.
Last night I look in the mirrow and to my surprise, I see how badly I have burned, and how swollen my face looks. (not sure it was, but the contrast made it look like it). So how could I burn when I applied it AT the park?? I was only in the sun for less than 2 hours. Did I apply it too soon before getting into the sun? I didnt sit directly IN the sun for about 1/2 hour. I had hoped it would help some at least. Its as if I never put any on. AND I keep feeling like I am getting bitten, but find out its like the ends of my nerves feel on fire (hence my "nerve bites") for a second, like a sudden BITE, only nothing is really biting me?!? Anyone else? Jan |

Any chance you may be allergic to the chemical in the sunscreen? I can't have any that's over SPF 15, and even that is pushing it for me. Otherwise I get rashes and hives.
![]() Which isn't cool since I have fair skin and family history of skin cancer, but I wear as high as I can go and limit time in the sun. But that's just my experience, maybe someone else has another idea. Hope you feel better soon. ![]()

NO Gladys I do not have pain from the sunburn, just don't understand why I would get one with sunscreen.
And thanks Cherie, you are always so informative and helpful. I am just wondering if something IS going on as I keep getting mouth sores, in corner of my mouth, and my nutritionist found I lack Vit C and B I think. But I Have been taking the supplements, well..most of the time. Just wondering what these painful nerve feelings that feel like bites. They HURT for a second or two, then itch. Kept feeling like I was getting biten by mosquitos. Thanks again Jan |

I realized these lightening strikes weren't happening until I walked into an air conditioned room and removed my shirt. The fresh air was like walking into a sewing. contest. After an hour or two of "man-crying" I was desperate for a solution. I jumped in the shower, turned up the heat and instantly the pains subsided. I believe they are damaged nerve endings either healing or drying out...either way the hot water provided some relief. When the hot water started to cool I hopped out, turned down the AC, put on a scratch y shirt and laid in bed. Anytime it started to act up I would rub around a bit in the scratch shirt and the stings would stop. Im actually suffering from it as Im writing this post. Im hopeful this will help someone the next time they experience this awful sunburn sensation. It no medical remedy....but definitely provides some relief!

I am photosensitive big time. I cannot use a sunscreen above 15. So my main defense against the sun is Solumbra cloth clothing and/or thick dense clothing when it's cold enough to wear the thick things. I have a wardrobe of Solumbra cloth clothing from Sun Precautions. I am very sensitive to some fabrics. Ordinarily a synthetic like Solumbra would bother me. But it doesn't. I usually wear a t-shirt under it, however, so I won't have to keep washing the shirts if a sweat. I have wide brim hats which I wear with an additional Solumbra scarf around my head to protect the areas not covered by the brim. I wear shirts, pants, skirts in Solumbra, and either Solumbra gloves or very thick dark gloves when driving. This is an obvious solution but people resist it because they think the Solumbra cloth is expensive or not attractive. Sun Precaution clothing IS attractive, although you may have to return a few things for exchanges if they do not suit your body type of color type.
I have found them so satisfactory that I don't even try the other brands which say they have SPF clothing, because why fuss with something that works? My favorite hats are the roll-brims, which come in many colors and have 4 inch brims. I may try a 6-inch brim, although that seems like a really big hat, but they are attractive and I've had many compliments. People think I'm odd because I'm covered up by they are used to me now. Anyone with any sense in our dry sunny climate wears hats ANY time they go out, whether or not they are sun sensitive. |

I just returned from five days in Jamaica and I have a sun rash. I have had it before but I faithfully used an SPF 70 product this time and tried to stay out of the direct sun.
We will need to go to a different area where there is more protection with cabanas each day. I also have huge mosquito and/or bug bites because I am allergic to shellfish and the sand-crabs cause a reaction when they bite me. But the vacation was great otherwise. ![]()
